As a Wuhan resident in the popular "Lockdown Diary" said: "There is definitely fear, definitely panic, but we cannot run. After all, we are Wuhan people, and this is our city!" Wuhan is quiet but not lonely. Besides the transport vehicles maintaining the city's systems, there are also trucks of love shuttling through the streets and alleys of Wuhan. Today, we want to share the story of a local couple in Wuhan who run a food wholesale business—Wang Chen and Tian Ting. This year marks their 20th year as Master Kong regional distributors. The following is the couple's account: We are both Wuhan natives, running a food wholesale business inherited from our parents. Besides food and beverages, we also do some liquor wholesale. Like this city, we Wuhan people are enthusiastic and love lively scenes. Although we often complain about traffic jams, when the city truly comes to a halt, you feel very unaccustomed. Such a big city, the streets emptied out in an instant. -01- On January 23, Wuhan was locked down. We were worried and anxious. Besides following official and online news daily, we kept thinking about what we could do for Wuhan. Later, we heard that medical staff were too busy to even eat, so we had the idea of sending them instant noodles. Coincidentally, Master Kong also reached out to us, saying they had launched a relief support operation starting from New Year's Eve, providing free instant noodles, drinking water, and other supplies to medical workers on the front lines. But after the lockdown, transportation was inconvenient, and the rapid spread of the epidemic made fewer people available to help. But when we told our parents, they were very nervous and advised us to hire workers instead, given the severity of the epidemic. Usually, we give our workers time off a week before the Chinese New Year, letting them return home to reunite with their families. At this critical juncture, with Wuhan locked down, many of our own workers couldn't come, and it was impossible to find temporary workers to go to hospitals. So we secretly called on my sister and went together. What particularly comforted us was our 12-year-old son. At first, he didn't understand and was even a bit angry, wondering why his parents couldn't stay with him during the holiday but had to go out for deliveries. But we told him that this was a meaningful thing, helping doctors quickly get energy so they could treat more patients. This is a responsibility we must have. Later, worried about a shortage of hands, we asked our son to help move goods at the warehouse, and he agreed without hesitation. Despite his young age, he was full of energy! Early in the morning, Master Kong's sales representative came to us and helped us load the goods. The process was not easy. First, there were many items; second, we didn't dare wear too many clothes, fearing that if we sweated while moving goods and got a cold, it would be bad. After loading, we set off for the hospital. Along the way, we saw almost no one; it was very empty. The Wuhan we knew was not like this, and it pained us. We encountered an ambulance passing by, and everyone in the car held their breath, looked up, and fell silent. We didn't know if it was heading to the same hospital, if it carried another COVID-19 patient, or what their outcome would be... Overall, the first delivery went smoothly. Later, we heard from Master Kong that on the same day, many social volunteers also spontaneously organized to pick up goods from the Master Kong factory and transport them to hospitals. One group, when going to Jinyintan Hospital, was filmed by CCTV reporters waiting at the gate because the Premier was inspecting that day. Instead of being happy, they were a bit angry, blaming the team organizer for not checking in advance. They were particularly afraid that if reported and recognized by acquaintances, it would cause panic, and they might be quarantined for entering the designated hospital area, thus unable to continue volunteer work. Tian Ting's husband, Wang Chen, said he never expected that the petite Tian Ting could be so strong. Two days later, on January 31, Master Kong told us that Leishenshan was under urgent construction and in need of supplies. They planned to send instant noodles and drinking water to the workers at the construction site. Since Leishenshan is in our Jiangxia District, they asked us to help again, picking up goods from our warehouse and delivering together. The construction site had a concentrated population, and Master Kong's sales representative specifically reminded us to protect ourselves before participating. We agreed without hesitation, wanting to contribute to the fight against the epidemic. The Leishenshan construction site is actually off-limits to outsiders, but from outside the wall, we could see many cranes and excavators, which was quite震撼. We really felt the race against time. We could already see some outlines from afar, and we were excited and moved. We said to ourselves: Build it quickly to help more people. Seeing on the news that these workers came from all over the country, we specially chose a variety of instant noodle flavors, hoping that after their hard work, they could taste familiar flavors at the construction site. The boss lady, Tian Ting, was very excited and posted on her Moments that day. What was truly tense was the third delivery to Jiangxia District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. The medical staff there learned about our support operation through other distributor friends and proactively contacted us, asking if we could also provide supplies for them. At first, we thought about donating a batch of instant noodles ourselves, but later we tried applying to Master Kong. Unexpectedly, the person in charge replied immediately: "We must support!" Their attitude was very firm, giving us great confidence. In times of difficulty, behind Wuhan, there are companies like Master Kong silently providing a strong backing. We are not fighting alone. Originally, the health school opposite the hospital was vacated as a logistics office, but due to a route mistake, we delivered to the outpatient department. We saw doctors in goggles and full protective suits walking hurriedly, and some patients coming to the hospital passed by us. Later, guided by medical staff, we went to the logistics department at the health school opposite. The doctor receiving the supplies said that too many patients were coming, and many doctors were overworked, with staff from various departments called in to help. His eyes showed exhaustion. The doctor was very excited about our arrival, expressing heartfelt gratitude to us for being willing to go against the flow and lend a hand, and even took a photo with us. Compared to the worries before delivery, we were more scared after visiting the hospital. Looking back, we also admire ourselves. Kindness is instinct, but the final decision to participate in the support operation relied on courage. -04- After returning from the hospital in the hardest-hit area, we self-quarantined, resolutely avoiding contact with our elders for fear of affecting them. During this period, we heard many voices around us. Some were accusations, even saying, "Stay away, don't harm us!" But more were likes from friends and family, praising us for sacrificing our small family for the big family. Especially seeing the heartfelt gratitude of medical staff and their eagerness to take photos with us, we felt that joining Master Kong's support operation was meaningful, worthwhile, and right! After learning about these things, our friends spontaneously bought Master Kong products and delivered them free to police stations, communities, etc. This made us feel proud and honored.
