What to do when a salesperson has nothing to say to a client?
Present prepared materials to the client, provided you have prepared them in advance. These can be product knowledge, company introduction, or personal introduction.
Talk about personal hobbies. This process is about finding common ground. Once you find the client's interest topics, they will be more willing to engage in sustained communication. For new clients, be cautious and don't talk about everything.
What preparations should be made before visiting a client?
Dress, language, and mindset. The first impression a salesperson makes on a client will influence the entire first conversation.
Maintain a polite but not obsequious demeanor.
What language taboos exist in sales?
Salespeople should avoid words like "generally," "maybe," "basically," "not necessarily." Instead, use "of course," "I guarantee," "certainly," "rest assured," which will increase your chances of closing a deal. If you can't answer immediately, say, "That's a very professional question. Let me check with our company's person in charge and get back to you."
Avoid profanity and verbal tics.
What should a successful salesperson's interpersonal relationships be like? Top salespeople are socially adept, skilled at networking both inside and outside the company, and maintain good relationships. They tend to have capable friends because birds of a feather flock together.
How to discuss products with a new client? Four points must be covered:
- What product you deal in
- What the product is used for
- What the product's features are
- What benefits it brings to the client
- Which salespeople are least welcomed?
- Those who speak haltingly or with a feminine tone (for male salespeople), lacking personal charm in speech.
- Those who cannot answer client questions, i.e., unprofessional.
- Those who are not humble or polite.
- Those who make promises they can't keep, i.e., dishonest. Most people prefer to associate with those who share similar hobbies and behaviors. Therefore, true sales experts often have multifaceted personalities or no distinct personality.
What if you lack vocal charm? In reality, very few people have vocal charm except musicians and hosts; about one in thirty people have a voice with charm. As a salesperson, if your voice lacks charm, you must rely on language skills to take the initiative in communication. Salespeople with good voices are indeed more appreciated by clients. If you don't have that, avoid unclear articulation, inconsistent intonation, and profanity.
What is the realm of a sales expert? Be calm in life and in sales. If you are not anxious, you won't be flustered. Even if you need to be humble, don't panic. If you can remain composed and unflappable, you are a sales expert.
How to give benefits to others? Giving benefits also requires method. When giving kickbacks, consider the occasion, timing, and mood. If the other party is in a bad mood, they may think the kickback is too small. Inappropriate occasions can backfire. The same applies to interpersonal interactions: when the occasion, timing, and mood are right, everything goes smoothly.
What books are essential for sales elites? Human resource management, marketing, psychology, and The Art of War. These four areas are must-reads. Reading HR management helps you understand company systems and models; marketing broadens your sales perspective; psychology helps you judge client and leader intentions; The Art of War, a classic Chinese philosophy, teaches you how to compete with rivals, as business is like warfare. Marketing books are numerous, and many are not worth reading. I recommend Philip Kotler, the father of marketing, for marketing. It's not that you can't do well without reading, but knowledge updates quickly, and marketing even faster. To become a versatile sales elite, you need a broad knowledge base, and books are one of the best ways to acquire knowledge.
What are the personality traits of sales elites? Since I started working, I've encountered countless sales elites. Their personalities mainly include:
Passionate: Always energetic and enthusiastic, never seen complaining or depressed.
Diligent: Not afraid of hardship, willing to challenge, with clear personal goals and ideals. Sales keep growing, and they are easily appreciated by leaders.
Assertive: Decisive, efficient, skilled and fierce in business, confident and domineering. Often the sales champion in the team.
Honest: Enthusiastic, cautious, true to their word, approachable, and excellent at maintaining client relationships, easily accepted by clients.
Thoughtful: Always clear-headed, methodical, enjoys thinking, good at planning, never seen panicking or fearful. They handle internal and external relationships well, remain composed, and are often the first choice for promotion.
How to become a sales elite? A professional survey company in the U.S. conducted a study on what qualities make a sales elite. The results showed that the qualities of a sales elite determine their success. The importance ranking of qualities is: passion, integrity, skills, knowledge, experience, network, and personality. Thus, network is not the most important condition; at best, it ranks sixth. In fact, except for those with severe disabilities, anyone has the potential to become a sales elite if you maximize your strengths and persist. Because if you lack passion, you can have integrity; if not integrity, you can have sales skills; if not skills, you can have knowledge; if not knowledge, you can have experience; if not experience, you can have a network; even if you have nothing, you can have questions. 99% of the time, selling a product is selling your ability. When your overall ability improves, you naturally become an admired sales elite. So, salespeople, as long as you maximize your strengths and persist, one day your abilities will reach the peak, and you will be a well-paid sales elite.
