Recently, a red packet called "WeChat Joy Party" has appeared in WeChat Moments. It looks identical to a normal WeChat red packet, and clicking on it allows you to "claim" a high-value red packet. However, the recipient must forward the link multiple times before the money can be credited.

During the Dragon Boat Festival, Ms. Wang saw a classmate share a "WeChat red packet" link in her primary school group. Thinking it was a festive gesture from classmates, she clicked on it and found it was 96.68 yuan. Just as she was wondering why her classmate was so generous, she noticed something different about this red packet.

The red packet began with the words "WeChat Joy Party." After Ms. Wang clicked "Claim Red Packet," a page popped up saying she needed to share the link to one friend and two WeChat groups, and the red packet would automatically be deposited into her wallet. However, after she forwarded it, the page indicated that the red packet would be credited to her WeChat wallet within 24 hours. After waiting a day, she received nothing.

A reporter tried the link provided by Ms. Wang and found that the red packet link contained multiple advertisements. Additionally, after forwarding, there was a free lottery draw. The reporter was "lucky" enough to win a watch valued at 1,980 yuan, but had to pay 49 yuan for shipping.

Previously, media reported on citizens being tricked by fake WeChat red packets that "give away" free items but charge shipping fees. Mr. Feng fell for this scam. "They said the postage was to be paid on delivery, making it seem like a bargain. When I got the item, it was just a cheap trinket worth a few yuan, not even worth the shipping I paid." According to Mr. Feng, the courier collected not the shipping fee but the payment for the goods. The two "free gift" promotions the reporter saw stated that a 49 yuan shipping fee was required, collected by the courier.

Red Packets That Require Forwarding Are All Fake!

The reporter contacted WeChat, and a relevant person in charge stated that WeChat has not launched any red packets that require forwarding to obtain. "After a real red packet is opened, the money automatically goes into the wallet. If it doesn't automatically go into the wallet, it's fake," the person said.

The reporter learned that since the Spring Festival this year, the WeChat team has received user reports about third-party applications publishing违规 third-party pages of "red packets" for malicious marketing, and some official accounts abusing the enterprise payment function to imitate WeChat red packet messages, inducing users to click on fake "red packets" and share to grab them. Such behavior not only poses security risks and violates the "WeChat Official Account Platform Operating Rules" and other regulations, but also greatly damages user experience.

The WeChat team will resolutely handle such violations in accordance with legal provisions and agreement rules.

WeChat Team Reminds Everyone:

1. Publishing fake "red packets" containing Trojan links Using the lure of "red packets" to attract users to forward, after clicking, users are redirected to product promotions, discount ads, and even some fake "red packet" pages hide Trojan viruses that steal users' personal privacy information, posing a risk of account theft.

2. Publishing "red packets" or WeChat red packets with inducement behaviors Some official accounts use methods including but not limited to "combined red packet grabbing" to induce sharing and following. Some official accounts also use the enterprise payment function to imitate WeChat red packet messages. After clicking the link, users must follow the official account before they can receive a small cash red packet, which is an inducement behavior prohibited by the "WeChat Official Account Platform Operating Rules."

3. Red packet grabbing plug-in software and applications Some plug-in software and applications claim to help users grab more red packets, inducing users to install them. The WeChat team reminds everyone that such software violates the "Tencent WeChat Software License and Service Agreement" and other agreement rules, posing great security risks to user information and property, and seriously affecting the user experience of WeChat software. Users are advised to be vigilant against such applications and use WeChat software legally and compliantly.
