2018 was undoubtedly a special year in China's economic development history. Drastic changes in the internal and external environment made capital more cautious towards various business models, and with stricter regulation, the industry entered a reshuffling period faster. As new business forms like unattended shelves, sharing economy, P2P, and blockchain successively cooled down, the window for entrepreneurs to find new trends shortened. However, one business form attracted a large number of investment institutions due to its low entry barrier and short profit cycle, including top-tier capital like IDG, GSR Ventures, and Today Capital, prompting more entrepreneurs to enter the group buying track. So, what changes are happening in the community group buying market? New Distribution has compiled a list of 100 community group buying platforms (community group buying enterprises and their service providers) with good development in China, hoping to provide some insights through an analysis of their distribution and financing. 1 Distribution of Community Group Buying Platforms From the distribution map of 100 community group buying enterprises, we can see that the more active regions for community group buying are still in East China and the coastal areas of South China. Although the number of platforms in Northeast, Southwest, and Northwest China is relatively small, regional platforms have begun to emerge and develop rapidly. In terms of specific provincial distribution, after expanding the statistical sample, Hunan has become the undisputed "City of Community Group Buying." Through research on the registration locations of Hunan's community group buying platforms, we found that besides the provincial capital Changsha, community group buying has blossomed across the entire province, and consumers generally have a high acceptance of it. Apart from Hunan, Beijing, Jiangsu, and Guangdong rank second, third, and fourth in the number of community group buying platforms. Notably, Shandong Province, due to its good fresh fruit resources and coastal location advantages, has also given birth to a large number of community group buying enterprises, ranking fifth in the number of registered community group buying enterprises. 2 Inventory of Community Group Buying Platform Types Similarly, we have divided the 100 community group buying enterprises into five categories based on team background, corporate genes, and business direction: 1. FMCG B2B-type Community Group Buying Platforms These are community group buying platforms incubated by B2B platforms, with group leaders typically being traditional retail store owners. Typical examples include Kaola Select under New High Bridge, Huigou Go under Zhongshang Huimin, and Xingsheng Youxuan under Furong Xingsheng. 2. Retail Enterprise-type Community Group Buying Platforms These are community group buying platforms incubated by retail enterprises that already have complete warehousing and distribution capabilities, product organization capabilities, and retail operations. Typical examples include Linlin Yi under Fresh Fruit No.1, the mini-program incubated by Qian Dama, and Suguo Youxuan under Suguo Convenience. 3. Platform-incubated Community Group Buying Platforms These are community group buying platforms incubated by other enterprises (not FMCG B2B or traditional retail enterprises), such as Meiri Yitao under Miss Fresh, Youjia Puzi under JD.com, and Xiaoqu Le under Global Hunter. 4. Native Entrepreneurial Community Group Buying Platforms Native community group buying platforms refer to platforms that start with community group buying as their initial entrepreneurial project. Among these, there are entrepreneurs with work experience in internet giants like Tencent and Meituan. Notably, during our statistics, we found that more and more traditional distributors in the region are starting to transform into community group buying. In the near future, community group buying e-commerce may become a major direction for traditional distributor transformation. 5. Industry Chain Service Enterprises These are enterprises that provide SaaS software, warehousing and distribution services for community group buying platforms, such as Zhitongcang providing front-warehouse services, and Shudongpo and Qunjielong providing SaaS and software services. Note: Since some platforms are both platform-incubated and have other backgrounds or genes, such as Xingsheng Youxuan based on the Furong Xingsheng system, which has both FMCG B2B genes and retail genes, and is also an internal incubation project, we only classify them under the most obvious category. 3 Development Details of 100 Community Group Buying Platforms If there are any statistical errors in the above information, please leave a message in the background to correct them.
