01 Gigglewater In January, sparkling wine brand Gigglewater launched several new products targeting female consumers and millennials in the UK, China, and Australia, including bottled Prosecco DOC, bottled and 220ml canned Frizzante Secco (Italian dry wine), and a range of canned sparkling wines. In the UK, Frizzante Secco retails at $1.99 per can, with 750ml bottles priced at $6.99–$7.99; the 750ml Prosecco DOC has a suggested retail price of $9.99. Additionally, Gigglewater will be sold through online retailer Cellar Link in the UK, China, and Australia. The brand name Gigglewater originates from an alcoholic beverage of 1920s America; the company claims it will use a relaxed marketing approach to develop its target market.
02 Pepsi LIFEWTR Pepsi announced the launch of premium bottled water LIFEWTR in the US in February, describing it as "purified water with added electrolytes, balanced pH, and great taste." It comes in two pack sizes: 700ml with a suggested retail price of $2.06, and 1L at $2.70. LIFEWTR's packaging serves as a canvas for artists; the first series features classic works by some of today's boldest and most individual artists, including MOMO, Craig & Karl, and Jason Woodside. Brad Jakeman, President of Pepsi's Global Beverage Group, said: "LIFEWTR is very important to us. We've put great effort into designing a premium bottled water that combines pure taste with vibrant packaging, and this product will connect us closely with consumers." The product will first launch in the US, then expand to other markets.
03 Grown-up Soda Mixers In January, Gus Grown-up Soda launched a range of sparkling mixed drinks in four flavors: Mojito, Moscow Mule, Cosmo, and Tonic & Lime, all alcohol-free. Each product contains lime juice, natural extracts, and cane sugar. Each 7-ounce bottle has approximately 50–60 calories. Co-founder Steve Hersh said: "We felt it was time to introduce a premium drink in a simple way, extending our soda line into the mixer category. The new products align well with current beverage trends such as small-batch production, quality natural ingredients, lightly sweetened, and convenience." The products debuted at the San Francisco Winter Fancy Food Show and will be sold through wine and spirits retailers, hotels, bars, specialty stores, natural food stores, restaurants, airlines, and cocktail delivery services, priced at $2.75–$3.00 per 7oz bottle.
04 Winter Gin Poetic License Distillery, an independent small distillery in the UK, launched a limited-edition gin called Fireside Gin for autumn and winter, featuring winter fruit flavors including a blend of citrus, cranberry, cinnamon, clove, and cardamom. The company states, "As the name suggests, it's perfect for enjoying on cold winter nights, sitting by the fire, watching the flames dance." In summer 2016, Poetic License Distillery released its first limited-edition strawberry cream-flavored gin. In 2017, the company will experiment with different flavors, producing a series of limited-edition spirits called "The Rarities."
05 B4: Fighting Hangovers Dietary supplement company Sunshine Supplement launched B4, a liquid dietary supplement drink in Florida, designed to help the body combat the effects of alcohol. B4 is a caffeine-free, lightly carbonated beverage containing vitamins, electrolytes, minerals, and antioxidants to help the body fight alcohol toxins. The drink underwent two years of testing before launch, developed by physician John Mansour and Dave Larue, Vice President of ABC Fine Wine & Spirits. They state that B4 can serve as a natural drink providing consumers with enough energy to enjoy a night out while replenishing vitamins and nutrients, helping the body eliminate alcohol and making the next day more comfortable. B4 is currently available at select ABC Fine Wine & Spirits stores in Florida at a retail price of $4.99, and can also be purchased online across the US.
06 Latin Flair Wine Biles Hendry, a UK-based design consultancy, designed a range of Argentine-style wines called Cumuna Wine for wine producer and distributor Bibendum. The name originates from Argentina, aiming to highlight the unique charm of Argentine cities. The packaging features a pair of dancers with arms linked, exuding Latin flair. The illustration style, along with hand lettering and filigree, evokes promotional posters created by street artists for nightclubs and bars. The range includes Pinot Grigio and Malbec varieties, sold in the UK at £7 per bottle.
07 Sungold Tradie Milk Australian brand Sungold temporarily changed the packaging of its 500ml milk to a fluorescent yellow color. Sungold explained, "Our main customers are retailers, who are known for their fluorescent yellow workwear. So we changed the packaging to fluorescent yellow to show our support, and we believe it will make a big impact in the market." The packaging change may also reignite consumer interest in flavored milk.
08 Leisure Ski-Themed Coffee Emmi CAFFè LATTE introduced a new leisure ski theme for its 230ml cappuccino and 370ml Mr Big iced coffee. The packaging features a three-dimensional mountain landscape, targeting consumers skiing in the Swiss Alps during winter, primarily those aged 18–30. The product is expected to boost winter iced coffee sales and will be available in the UK until March 2017, with suggested retail prices of £1.35 for the 230ml cappuccino and £2 for the 370ml Mr Big iced coffee.
09 Coco Splash Coconut Water Dash Organic, which entered the UK market last year, launched Coco Splash coconut water in London, now available in major health food stores.
10 16.6% ABV Cider Reverend Nat Cider launched its latest product, Wooden Hellfir, a cider with 16.6% alcohol, made from fresh apple juice and yeast, aged for one year in Kentucky bourbon barrels. The company is known for its cider production, inspired by ice wine. In Quebec, apples are left on the tree until frozen, yielding high-concentration natural juice, which is further processed into a natural, additive-free, high-alcohol sweet cider. Wooden Hellfir uses fresh apple juice concentrated through 18 hours of high-temperature reduction.
