Recently, I've been thinking about writing an article on the ultimate fate of FMCG distributors in China, but I've hesitated for a long time. First, the topic is too broad; second, it's too heavy. From the bottom of my heart, I deeply sympathize with distributor friends engaged in FMCG agency. They brave wind and rain, work hard all year, yet earn very little, and occasionally face expired products, terminal credit periods, vehicle accidents, and salespeople running off...

Being a distributor is not easy; most of the money earned is hard-earned. They want to develop and transform, but constrained by capital and talent, without special opportunities, it's extremely difficult to grow the business through accumulation alone.

A couple of days ago, I chatted with a distributor friend from Wenzhou about his concerns. He's been in the agency business for decades, with a considerable scale. Now he's tired and wants his son to take over, but his son finds it tiring and not profitable enough, so he's unwilling. There's no suitable internal candidate, and although they've hired externally several times, none have succeeded. This has left the distributor boss worried: "If I stop, is that it for this business?"

With the rise of the internet in recent years, any distributor sensitive to the external environment should have felt the growing impact of the internet on our business. Whether to embrace or reject it, whether it's effective or just a gimmick, time has left distributors undecided.

If you have time on March 22, be sure to come to the Chengdu Spring Sugar & Wine Fair.
