After repeated business reshuffling, Nestlé's organic revenue achieved its fastest growth in five years. According to the financial report, Nestlé's total sales in 2020 were 84.3 billion Swiss francs (approximately 608.3 billion yuan), a year-on-year decrease of 8.9%, mainly due to the continued appreciation of the Swiss franc, which reduced sales by 7.9%, and the impact of asset divestitures from business adjustments in 2020, which reduced revenue by 4.6%. Excluding these factors, Nestlé's organic revenue growth in 2020 was as high as 3.6%, the highest level in the past five years. Among this, real internal growth was 3.2%, and pricing contributed 0.4%. By region, Nestlé's Americas zone achieved organic growth of 4.8%: with 4.1% from real internal growth and 0.7% from pricing, achieving mid-single-digit organic growth, while Latin America achieved high-single-digit organic growth. Europe, Middle East and North Africa achieved organic growth of 2.9%. Western Europe had low-single-digit organic growth. Central and Eastern Europe reported mid-single-digit organic growth. The Middle East and North Africa both had low single-digit organic growth. Asia, Oceania and Sub-Saharan Africa achieved organic growth of 0.5%. China saw a high-single-digit decline in organic growth. Southeast Asia had low-single-digit organic growth, South Asia achieved mid-single-digit organic growth, and Sub-Saharan Africa achieved double-digit organic growth driven by strong economic growth. Japan, South Korea and Oceania had flat organic growth. It is worth noting that in 2020, Nestlé's Greater China sales were 5.986 billion Swiss francs, equivalent to approximately 43.199 billion yuan. Mainly affected by the pandemic, the Chinese market saw negative growth in 2020, but from a business perspective, China's business is showing new changes: infant formula sales are declining, but the pet business continues to grow at double-digit rates. Regarding the performance in China, Nestlé China explained: due to the reduction in out-of-home channels and limited consumer stockpiling during the COVID-19 lockdown during the Chinese New Year in 2020, the Chinese market experienced negative growth; due to strong growth of Nestlé coffee and Starbucks products on e-commerce platforms, the coffee business achieved high-single-digit growth; seasonings and ice cream achieved mid-single-digit growth; ambient dairy products achieved positive growth, led by home baking products and adult nutrition products; infant formula sales decline improved in the second half of the year, with the locally produced Wyeth Zhelang brand making good progress, and infant cereals achieved double-digit growth; Nestlé Professional sales declined but improved in the fourth quarter and were almost flat. Regarding the 2020 results, Nestlé CEO Mark Schneider said in the announcement: "2020 was a difficult year for many, but I am also encouraged by how we all came together more closely. I want to thank our employees and partners, from farmers to retailers, who worked with us to ensure the supply of food and beverages to communities worldwide." Mark Schneider said: "Nestlé achieved its goal of improving organic growth, profitability, and return on invested capital for the third consecutive year. Nestlé's nutritional expertise, digital capabilities, diversified structure, and innovation engine enable Nestlé to quickly adapt to changing consumer behaviors and trends. In 2020, Nestlé also accelerated the transformation of its product categories, continuing to build Nestlé Health Science as a nutrition powerhouse and expanding our direct-to-consumer business." Looking back at 2020, the global pandemic did not slow Nestlé down. Looking ahead to 2021, Nestlé also stated that it expects to continue to improve in organic growth, profitability, and investment efficiency under its value creation model.
