In recent years, with the acceleration of capital market reform and innovation, market value management has been increasingly valued by listed companies. In 2018, the capital market was volatile, with frequent reshuffling of market value rankings among Chinese listed companies. Including the food industry, 80% of listed companies saw their market value shrink, but some companies bucked the trend and continued to expand steadily. Based on data from the last trading day of 2018 (A-shares on December 28, Hong Kong stocks on December 31), Huatang Industry Research Center (the owner of Food Board) ranked the market value of Chinese food and beverage listed companies and compiled a ranking for reference. 2018 Market Value Ranking of Listed Food Companies Currency: RMB Security Name| Market Value (100 million yuan)| Change vs 2017 Haitian Flavoring| 1857.85| 27.84% Yili Industrial| 1390.68| -28.93% Mengniu Dairy| 841.14| 4.96% Shuanghui Development| 778.37| -10.98% WH Group| 776.70| -31.56% Dali Foods| 695.92| -18.45% China Want Want| 598.79| -16.45% Tingyi Holding| 515.75| -31.05% Yangyuan Zhiyin| 313.21| —— VITASOY INT'L| 278.11| 49.90% Uni-President China| 257.79| 3.98% H&H International| 251.20| -13.42% By-Health| 249.55| 13.02% Zhongju High-tech| 234.69| 18.98% Taoli Bread| 212.53| 15.88% Angel Yeast| 207.92| -22.89% Yihai International| 175.87| 154.86% Fuling Zhacai| 170.50| 28.80% COFCO Sugar| 151.02| -7.42% Juewei Food| 135.75| -16.01% Meihua Biological| 131.16| -18.22% Ausnutria| 122.20| 136.35% Bright Dairy| 102.37| -44.82% Qiaqia Food| 96.53| 20.58% Xiangpiaopiao| 89.11| -16.16% Sanyuan Shares| 82.22| -14.35% Hengshun Vinegar| 81.49| 14.67% Anjoy Foods| 79.50| 51.44% Chengde Lolo| 78.68| -15.01% Shenzhen Shenbao A| 78.60| 45.36% Hunan Salt| 75.53| —— Kingdomway| 74.10| -35.79% Quantum Bio| 73.12| 12.85% Zhou Hei Ya| 72.37| -57.80% China Foods| 70.22| -37.42% Shanghai Maling| 69.86| -8.25% Tibet Water Resources| 60.88| -24.58% Sanquan Food| 58.94| -10.45% Yashili International| 58.31| -6.67% Huang Shang Huang| 51.08| -39.83% *ST Yinmei| 50.72| -31.11% Qianhe Flavoring| 50.17| -14.45% Huishan Dairy| 49.68| 0.00% Xiwang Food| 49.42| -42.77% Bairun Shares| 48.60| -47.70% Huiyuan Juice| 47.37| -6.48% V V Food| 47.15| -35.47% Gansu Yuanzu| 42.00| -13.37% Modern Dairy| 41.98| -48.34% Jiajia Food| 41.47| -49.01% Jinhua Ham| 40.99| -49.33% Kemen Noodle| 40.96| -13.77% Daodaoquan| 35.29| -37.37% Shuangta Food| 34.81| -46.18% Zhongchong Pet| 33.09| -7.80% Guangze Shares| 31.43| -15.65% Kedi Dairy| 30.55| -40.13% Chenguang Biotech| 29.59| -36.41% Jialong Shares| 29.47| -20.85% Tianrun Dairy| 28.50| -39.52% Royal Group| 27.22| -50.15% Yantang Dairy| 26.92| -38.01% Yanjin Shop| 26.66| -18.16% Guanghong Holdings| 26.15| -33.92% Wugu Mofang| 25.93| —— Guifaxiang| 24.86| -24.95% Delisi| 21.69| -51.02% ST Zhongji| 21.44| -33.65% Black Sesame| 20.82| -41.24% Baolingbao| 20.16| -43.94% Lotus Health| 20.07| -38.24% China Shengmu| 19.80| -71.83% Tianbao Food| 19.55| -50.35% SDIC Zhonglu| 19.22| -28.21% Haixin Food| 19.18| -28.16% Huazi Industry| 19.11| -46.17% Maiquer| 18.95| -37.92% Manor Ranch| 18.02| -42.52% Nanning Sugar| 17.73| -41.56% Anji Food| 16.26| -65.29% Laohenghe Brewing| 15.59| -24.94% Changshouhua Food| 15.30| -18.50% Huifa Shares| 13.86| -41.22% Four Seas Group| 13.19| 13.33% Qinqin Food| 11.52| 31.40% Yurun Food| 10.24| -20.99% Zhongdi Dairy| 10.11| -29.33% Ve Wong International| 10.02| -6.25% Tsit Wing International| 7.49| —— Tianwo International| 7.36| -79.23% Jiashili Group| 6.56| -5.76% Putian Food| 6.55| 29.54% Crayon Shin-chan Food| 5.95| 8.51% Andre Juice| 5.40| 44.44% Christine| 4.61| -16.13% Haisheng Juice| 2.38| -36.36% Simei Holdings| 2.34| -78.00% Kangda Food| 1.79| -50.53% Yefeng Group| 1.69| -38.62% China Candy| 1.59| 0.00% Interpretation

  1. In the above table, Hong Kong stock market values have been converted based on the average RMB to HKD exchange rate on December 31, 2018;
  2. The total market value of the companies in the table exceeds one trillion yuan (approximately 1.3 trillion yuan);
  3. According to the table, there are 2 companies with market value above 100 billion yuan, 21 with market value above 10 billion yuan, 12 with market value below 1 billion yuan, and companies with market value between 1 billion and 10 billion yuan account for 65%;
  4. Haitian Flavoring reached a market value of 185.785 billion yuan, becoming the highest among all food companies in the period, nearly three times its first-day market value of about 50 billion yuan when it listed on February 11, 2014;
  5. Yili Industrial ranked second with a market value exceeding 139 billion yuan. Financial reports show that in the first nine months of 2018, Yili achieved revenue of 60.846 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16.73%. The industry expects Yili's full-year 2018 revenue to exceed 80 billion yuan;
  6. Taoli Bread is known as "China's A-share bread first stock" and has a reputation as a hidden champion, with a market value of 21.2 billion yuan. Looking at its performance over the past five years, revenue increased from 1.757 billion yuan in 2013 to 4.08 billion yuan in 2017, more than doubling;
  7. In 2018, Fuling Zhacai frequently made headlines, not only with strong performance (net profit growth of 77.52% in the first half), but also triggering social discussions about consumption downgrade. At the end of 2018, its market value reached 17 billion yuan, and its future should not be underestimated;
  8. Among the 100 listed food companies in the table, only 20 saw positive market value growth, with Yihai International leading with an increase of 154.86%, followed by Ausnutria Dairy, Anjoy Foods, and VITASOY INT'L with increases of approximately 136%, 51%, and 50% respectively;
  9. Among the 100 listed food companies, more than 70% (74 companies) saw their market value decline, with Tianwo International shrinking by 79.23%, the largest decline. In May 2018, Tianwo International's board chairman Lin Jianhua began to be absent and assisted relevant departments in investigations. Since then, Tianwo International experienced major turmoil, with its stock price plummeting and market value evaporating;
  10. Looking at the 2018 market value rankings, the food and beverage industry showed divergent performance in the first half. Competition in the dairy industry intensified, and the leading role of top companies gradually became evident; the condiment industry performed well overall with increasing profitability; the snack food industry was driven by dietary leisure trends, with stable overall growth. Looking back at 2018, despite the volatile industry environment, various signs indicate that China's food industry will continue to move forward amid transformation in 2019. As participants in the food industry, in 2019 we should stay true to our original aspirations, strengthen our internal capabilities, connect and coexist, and open ourselves to find more opportunities.
