Behind the Boom of Children's Snacks: Real Demand or Fake Concept?
A new buzzword has emerged in the capital market: "children's snacks." As post-90s generation, our snacks from childhood to adolescence and adulthood had no clear demarcation, mainly consisting of foods suitable for all ages like Xizhilang jelly, Lay's potato chips, Weilong spicy strips, Mimi shrimp crackers, and Want Want milk. In other words, there has always been a conceptual gap between infant food and adult food. On June 15, 2020, China's first group standard for children's snacks, "General Requirements for Children's Snacks," was officially implemented, which for the first time proposed the concept of "children's snacks"—foods suitable for children aged 3-12, consumed outside regular meals to supplement nutrition, balance nutrition, or increase water intake, and to relax and delight the mood.

Cold is the collective feeling of physical retailers this summer. National Bureau of Statistics data shows that from January to May 2022, total retail sales of consumer goods were 17,168.9 billion yuan, down 1.5% year-on-year. Among them, online retail sales nationwide were 4,960.4 billion yuan, up 2.9% year-on-year, while offline retail sales declined even more severely. According to incomplete statistics from Yilan Business, in the first half of 2022, nearly 2,500 offline stores across multiple physical retail formats announced closures, including 67 supermarkets. Clearly, facing severe conditions, transformation, adjustment, and contraction have become common choices for physical retailers. Notably, at this moment, the top three domestic supermarket chains—RT-Mart (Gaoxin Retail, hereinafter RT-Mart), Walmart China, and Yonghui—while competing with each other, have taken different paths.
