Who Is 'Remaking' Nestlé?
As the global consumer market enters a phase of stagnant competition, the food and beverage industry is undergoing deep adjustments. Consumer preferences are shifting from big brands and standardized products toward functional, health-oriented, and localized options, rendering the old scale-driven growth model ineffective. In this context, Nestlé's business performance is under pressure, with fluctuating sales and slowing growth in major segments, leading to a mass layoff plan of 16,000 employees. Despite cyclical pressure, it stabilized its core business. Its 2024 Q1 report showed revenue back on a growth track, up 2.79% year-on-year to 2.451 billion yuan. Due to proactive price concessions, net profit attributable to shareholders fell 57.98% to 62.4828 million yuan.

Exiting Zhao Yiming does not mean Bestore is giving up on the bulk snack sector; its incubated brand 'Snack Wanjia' has taken shape, focusing on its home market in Hubei with plans to open 500 stores this year. In just a few years, major bulk snack brands, backed by capital, have been rapidly expanding nationwide through franchising, with leading players surpassing 1,000 stores each. Yet, no national leader has truly emerged, and the war over affordable snacks is far from over.
