Convenience Stores: A Chaotic Battle in the "Eye of the Storm"

No one expected that convenience stores, initially an extension of large supermarkets, would become the most prominent retail format today. Since entering China in the 1990s, the sector has grown rapidly, with sales up 8.3% year-on-year in 2018, the highest among retail formats. However, in China's fast-changing business landscape, the idea that "even pigs can fly when standing at the eye of the storm" does not apply universally; convenience stores are no exception, with some thriving and others struggling.
