Are Distributors and E-commerce Platforms Destined to Perish Together?

E-commerce cannot easily kill distributors unless there is a major change in the form of production organization. Even if the C2B and C2M era arrives, it would not only be a disaster for distributors but also for e-commerce platforms, leading to mutual destruction. Currently, e-commerce has indeed removed some intermediate links, but e-commerce itself is essentially an intermediate link. Distributors play four cards: time, space, price, and quantity, each essentially about differences. In nicer terms, it's supply chain management plus supply chain finance.

The Fate of Traditional Distributors Depends on the Manufacturer's Health: From a Duet to a Three-Way Drama, a Lesson Learned the Hard Way, and the Golden Chamber Pot

For years, the chamber pot has accompanied manufacturers through endless nights, as manufacturers have always been 'kidney-deficient' and needed it every night. But when the internet's 'hormones' cured the manufacturers' deficiency, the chamber pot became anxious. Distributors' anxiety is not unfounded: they have no products, no brands, no markets—everything belongs to others, making them seem like 'people with nothing.' But does that mean distributors have no value? Obviously not. Their value lies in the supply chain.

Traditional Distributor's Monologue: E-commerce, You Haven't Knocked Us Out, You've Confused Us—Why Are You Not Making Money and Dragging Us Down Too?

For a long time, B2B solved information problems, then transaction problems, then delivery problems, and finally credit problems. This is a process from light to heavy, from online to offline, from information to data, and from data to credit. B2B is indeed difficult; Alibaba started with B2B but was truly made by B2C, and now it's returning to B2B. Some say online ordering isn't B2B, but I think if there's a prelude, online ordering counts as B2B.
