Pinduoduo and Meituan: An Inevitable Showdown
Fresh grocery shopping is just the first step. In April 2019, Meituan founder Wang Xing predicted a fascinating battle between Pinduoduo's Huang Zheng and Taobao/Tmall's Jiang Fan. A year and a half later, Pinduoduo is not only challenging Taobao/Tmall but also invading Meituan's territory. In late August 2020, Pinduoduo launched 'Duoduo Maicai' (Duoduo Grocery) in Wuhan and Nanchang, marking its first offline venture and intensifying competition in the community group-buying sector.
