Why Are Vending Machines in Japan So Advanced?
In Japan, vending machines that sell almost anything are as common as 24-hour convenience stores, but this familiar sight has become a photo opportunity for foreign tourists due to the sheer variety of products. According to the Japan Vending Machine Manufacturers Association, there were 5.03 million vending machines nationwide by the end of 2014, with beverage machines accounting for 51% of the total. Although the number of vending machines is declining, the total sales value still approaches 5 trillion yen, making vending machines a significant industry.
