Beverage King Zong Qinghou

Zong Qinghou's family donated 63.2 million yuan over the past year, ranking 32nd, the highest among food industry donors. On the 2016 Hurun Charity List, Zong Qinghou's family donated 63.2 million yuan for education, disaster relief, poverty alleviation, and social welfare projects. Last year, Zong Qinghou's wealth reached $19 billion (approximately 124.8 billion yuan), ranking 41st globally.

Zong Qinghou started from scratch. In 1989, he led about 100 workers from a school-run factory to develop and launch Wahaha children's nutritional liquid, establishing Hangzhou Wahaha Nutritional Food Factory. The product quickly became popular. In 1991, Zong Qinghou made a bolder move: he merged the state-owned old factory, Hangzhou Canned Food Factory, which had over 2,000 employees, and formally established Wahaha Food Group Company. That year, output value reached 217 million yuan. In 2003, revenue exceeded 10 billion yuan, making it the fifth-largest beverage producer globally. Now, Wahaha has grown into a "super battleship" with annual revenue exceeding 70 billion yuan.

Herbal Tea Tycoon Chen Hongdao

Chen Hongdao, the herbal tea tycoon, donated 32.8 million yuan in 2016, ranking 52nd, mainly for poverty alleviation and education. Last year, his wealth was $2.4 billion (approximately 15.7 billion yuan).

As chairman of JDB Group, Chen Hongdao is an extremely low-profile entrepreneur who rarely appears in public media. His most notable donation was during the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, when he donated 100 million yuan in the name of JDB. This was a huge sum at the time and caused a stir. Although the internet was just developing rapidly in 2008, after the donation, netizens launched a "buy out Wanglaoji" campaign, making Wanglaoji a sought-after beverage nationwide. In 2007, Wanglaoji's sales revenue was 9 billion yuan, but after the 100 million yuan donation, Wanglaoji's herbal tea became famous nationwide, and its 2008 sales revenue surged to over 10 billion yuan.
