Even the smallest things have their value. Everyone possesses infinite potential, just waiting to be tapped. So, don't envy others' good fortune, and don't complain that your value hasn't been discovered. If you are a pearl, even if confined in a hard shell, you will be discovered sooner or later; if you are a grain of sand, even on a sunlit beach, you will forever be trampled underfoot by tourists.

After graduating from Stanford, John joined a small accounting firm. Every day, like all new young employees, he did simple work. He often felt his talents were unrecognized, and because he wasn't given important roles, he was gloomy all day, constantly complaining to family and friends.

One day, John couldn't hold back his frustration and went to question God: "Why is fate so unfair to me?"

God remained silent, picked up a small stone from the ground, and threw it into a pile of rubble. God said to John, "Use your talent and wisdom to find the stone I just threw."

John searched through the rubble but found nothing. He said discontentedly, "You haven't answered my question yet!"

This time, God frowned, walked to John, took the ring off John's finger, and threw it into the rubble. John was shocked and angry. Before God could speak, he rushed to the pile and quickly found the shiny gold ring.

John angrily approached God, but before he could speak, God said, "Are you that stone, or this ring?"

Looking at the smiling God, John suddenly understood: when you are still just a stone, not a piece of shining gold, you should never complain that fate is unfair to you.

When we complain that reality is unfair, we should first ask ourselves whether we are a stone or gold. People often overestimate themselves, and when they encounter setbacks, they feel their talents are unrecognized, which can lead to the opposite extreme: underestimating themselves. This is truly regrettable. From a psychological perspective, inappropriate self-assessment is abnormal, and such expectations often lead to negative attitudes toward life, study, and work. Only proper self-awareness can create a beautiful life.

Value never needs to be proven by complaints. Only by conquering yourself can you conquer others and earn their trust. A writer once said, "Convincing yourself is a victory of reason; being moved by yourself is a spiritual elevation; conquering yourself is a maturity of life. Those who have convinced, been moved by, and conquered themselves have the power to overcome all setbacks, pains, and misfortunes." So, when you want to prove your abilities to the world, first make yourself believe that you are truly capable, not a "complainer."

Once you discover and affirm your value, calmly, firmly, and confidently guard your ideals. As long as you believe in them, they can be realized. Don't forget to cheer yourself on, and soon you'll find that what seemed out of reach is now within your grasp.
