After the bustling Spring Festival golden sales week, many companies' sales charts, having traced a beautiful peak, are now facing the danger of a rapid plunge into a trough. How to maintain a good sales situation after the Spring Festival and achieve "not dull after the peak season" is an urgent issue for many company owners and marketing executives. Based on years of experience, I have summarized the following sixteen methods for your reference.
1. Integrity First When manufacturers talk about boosting sales in the off-season, distributors' first reaction is often: the manufacturer is trying to push inventory on us. Indeed, many manufacturers do this, increasing channel resistance. Therefore, we should prioritize integrity: boosting sales for them does not mean forcing inventory. Instead, we should have a plan to help them sell, enabling consumers to buy more, so they stock more and sell more.
2. Boost Morale After a sales peak, salespeople easily slack off. This is partly due to the busy work of the previous period, partly because they earned well during the peak and think they can rest now, and partly because they believe the off-season has little potential. In this situation, we urgently need to wind them up. First, create a sense of crisis; second, offer sweeteners. The crisis is that if we don't maintain the market during this period, competitors may seize our space, and by the time we react, it may be too late. The sweetener is higher commissions. Crucially, make them understand that the off-season is not without opportunities; merchants also want more business and hope we can help boost sales. If competitors don't act and we do, we can expand our market space.
3. Intensify Promotion Many companies concentrate their promotional budgets on the golden sales period, spending lavishly then but turning stingy afterward. In fact, the post-Spring Festival off-season also needs promotional support. Media costs are relatively low at this time, and other manufacturers advertise less, so you can achieve greater impact with less money. Additionally, it gives distributors and retailers more confidence and willingness to sell our products.
4. Rebate Incentives Rebates are calculated at any time of the year, but we can set higher rebate rates for the one-and-a-half-month off-season after the Spring Festival. For example, if an agent sells 300,000 yuan of goods from February 15 to March 31, we can multiply that amount by a coefficient, say 1.5, making it 450,000 yuan for rebate calculation. This allows them to earn more rebates, providing a tangible incentive for the channel.
5. Grand Prizes Offer substantial rewards: first place for selling 500,000 yuan between February 15 and March 31 gets 50,000 yuan, second place gets 30,000 yuan, and so on. Such large rewards can excite distributors and prompt them to stock up and replenish.
6. Appeal with Prospects Besides tangible incentives, intangible appeals also work. Paint a bright market prospect: expanding local market awareness, seizing competitors' market share, becoming our gold agent, becoming the local leader, etc. If presented well, these prospects can stir distributors' hearts and create an impulse to replenish stock.
7. Right Products As mentioned in point one, helping the channel sell goods is the most compelling factor. This requires selecting products that are suitable for the market. After the Spring Festival, consumer psychology and atmosphere differ greatly from during the festival. Manufacturers should provide products that are more appropriate for the off-season, rather than pushing leftover Spring Festival stock, which will inevitably become slow-moving.
8. Increase Distribution After the Spring Festival's heavy distribution, most manufacturers reduce distribution in the off-season. If we increase distribution efforts now, we gain an advantage over competitors and attract more channel interest.
9. Exclusive Sales Plan Exclusive sales plans are commonly used in the professional cosmetics line to boost channel sales and are often effective. We can borrow this approach. Develop a comprehensive sales assurance plan, equip it with a sales support team including promotion supervisors and event organizers, and conduct巡回 assistance to distributors. Help them sell the stocked goods within a specified time.
10. Strengthen Promotions Promotions are more consumer-oriented. Based on changes in the social consumption environment and consumer psychology after the Spring Festival, formulate corresponding promotional plans and strengthen them according to actual market conditions. This includes gift design, discount intensity, and the presence of promotional staff, all of which should be enhanced.
11. Gift Sales Choose appropriate gifts based on actual conditions. Gifts can not only appeal to consumers but also prompt distributors to stock up. If the product range is limited and cannot change much between pre- and post-Spring Festival, you can work on gifts. For example, a TV can be paired with a dehumidifier, which suits the humid spring weather.
12. Break Bulk During the Spring Festival peak, manufacturers ship large quantities in big lots. In the off-season, this can cause psychological pressure on distributors. We can break large shipments into smaller ones to make them more acceptable.
13. Seize Retail Terminals As mentioned earlier, salespeople may slack off in the off-season, neglecting their territories and terminals. If we develop a plan to seize these terminals, cooperating with distributors to attack them with incentives and emotional appeals, we can successfully capture many territories. This is the ultimate outlet for real sales and greatly benefits our sales.
14. Develop New Products If new products can be launched now, they can attract more channel and consumer attention in a less competitive environment, open markets, and boost sales. However, note that these new products should not be easily imitated; otherwise, the gains may be lost. After all, off-season sales volumes are limited, and if imitated, the next peak season will face many similar product attacks.
15. Open New Channels If some old channels cannot generate sales in the off-season, consider using this opportunity to find new channels. This could be a second distributor or another type of sales method involving a different channel. At this time, channel updates have relatively less negative impact on the existing market.
16. Open New Markets Everything is relative, and so are peak and off seasons. Perhaps your product is off-season in one market after the Spring Festival, but in another market, it might be the start of the peak season. This requires us to grasp the overall situation, search for more information, and strive to open up new markets.
