According to the latest report "Plant-Based Protein Drinks 2016" by market research and consulting firm Mintel, as Chinese consumers become more health-conscious, plant-based protein drinks, traditionally positioned as nourishing, are gaining widespread favor. 87% of Chinese consumers said they had consumed plant-based protein drinks in the past six months. Common plant-based protein drinks include soy milk, soybean milk, grain drinks, coconut juice, almond milk, and walnut milk, among which coconut juice is one of the fastest-growing subcategories. 30% of Chinese consumers said they drank more coconut juice in the six months prior to October 2015 than before, surpassing soy drinks (29%) and grain drinks (26%). Since 2010, the overall plant-based protein drink market in China has developed steadily, with compound annual growth rates of 24.4% in sales value and 21.3% in volume. It is projected that from 2015 to 2020, the total sales volume of China's plant-based protein drink market will grow from 5.843 billion liters to 10.797 billion liters. "The penetration rate of plant-based protein drinks is very high, and the increase in sales growth is mainly driven by the growing number of high-end products on the market. However, we also find that preferences vary by region across different subcategories. For example, northern regions prefer almond milk, while eastern and southern regions favor coconut juice," said Yang Qing, food and beverage analyst at Mintel. "Coconut Palm" coconut juice from Hainan Coconut Palm Group has always been one of the most well-known brands in this category. This coconut juice, which has long been touted as a "state banquet beverage," continued to maintain good growth last year. According to data from market research firm Euromonitor, since 2012, Coconut Palm coconut juice has seen its share in the domestic juice category in supermarket channels grow for four consecutive years, reaching 6.7% in 2015, surpassing Master Kong juice (5.7%) from Ting Hsin Group, and second only to Coca-Cola's Minute Maid juice drinks (14%). In addition to brands like Coconut Palm, Lulu, and Nanfang that focus on specific subcategories, companies such as Mengniu and Coca-Cola have also attempted to enter the growing plant-based protein drink market in recent years to diversify their product lines. In 2014, Mengniu launched the "Zhipu Mofang" series of walnut and almond drinks; in 2015, Coca-Cola fully acquired Xiamen Cufangwang Beverage Technology Co., Ltd., which is known for its plant-based protein drinks in flavors like red bean, mung bean, and walnut. Meanwhile, Vitasoy, which has performed well in the mainland Chinese market, has opened its fourth factory in Wuhan to continue expanding capacity. Although plant-based protein drinks are a common choice for gifts during festivals, 70% of surveyed consumers said they buy them mainly for their own use. According to the Mintel report, consumers who buy plant-based protein drinks for personal use are mostly from higher-income households (monthly household income over 16,000 yuan in first-tier cities, and over 14,000 yuan in second- and third-tier cities) and from first-tier cities. Consumers who buy them as gifts tend to prefer international brands and are more likely to purchase online. Among self-use consumers, 63% choose to drink plant-based protein drinks during "leisure time at home," ranking first among various consumption scenarios. Second is "gatherings with family and friends," which increased from 38% two years ago to 57%. Additionally, 55% of consumers drink them with meals. Yang Qing believes this trend is mainly driven by women, consumers with high school education or below, and those in second- and third-tier cities. Given that usage occasions have extended beyond breakfast, manufacturers are adding new elements to make plant-based protein drinks more suitable for leisure and diverse occasions. Although local brands like Coconut Palm still hold advantages in taste localization, extensive distribution channels, and high cost-performance, they face competitive pressure from international brands. For example, American brand Vita Coco coconut water, endorsed by pop star Rihanna, has already launched in e-commerce and convenience store channels and has conducted marketing activities through a series of music festivals. These imported plant-based protein drinks, carrying a high-end aura and touting better quality and fewer additives, hold considerable appeal for Chinese consumers. -END- Excellent Product Promotion: China's First Brain Gold Drink "Shanlong" Brain Gold Drink National Recruitment Reasons for recommendation:
