In daily management, why do some teams become fragmented, with members shirking responsibility, idling away time yet full of complaints, where instructions are not effectively implemented, supervisors are not respected, and performance is nowhere to be found? In fact, building a team and establishing a supervisor's authority is not achieved overnight but is the result of daily accumulation. If supervisors elevate the daily morning meeting to the level of corporate culture and organize it scientifically and reasonably, it greatly helps to effectively solve these problems. This article briefly elaborates on the value and significance of morning meetings, common problems and causes of inefficiency, matters needing attention, and how to hold efficient morning meetings. I. The Value of Morning Meetings The true value of morning meetings should be an effective tool and means to achieve the organization's vision and mission. They are both a concrete extension of strategy implementation and a practical refinement of corporate culture building. Their value and significance lie in:

  1. Unifying the team's values: By evaluating certain phenomena in the organization, employees understand: what the organization's principles are, what the bottom line is, what is advocated, and what is opposed. Behaviors that are advocated should be praised and encouraged, while those opposed should be firmly punished, thereby rooting values in every employee's mind.
  2. Ensuring the realization of strategic goals: The enterprise's strategic goals can only be gradually achieved if they are broken down from content to individuals and from time to years, months, and days, and then implemented one by one. Morning meetings can review the progress of employees' daily work to implement the completion of the strategy.
  3. Deploying key tasks: Deploy and emphasize the day's key tasks to ensure every member is aware, and facilitate mutual cooperation.
  4. Boosting employee confidence: The morning is the best time of the day; a good mental state is a prerequisite for efficient work. Supervisors should use morning meetings to promote positive energy and enhance employee confidence.
  5. Cultivating a vigorous and resolute work style: Each work item should have arrangements, checks, tracking, and implementation, making employees realize that work must be grounded, and developing a habit of being goal-oriented and making no excuses.
  6. Promoting skill improvement among members: Through sharing experiences and lessons from work among internal members, encourage other members to learn and apply.
  7. Solving the "information bottleneck" phenomenon: Use morning meetings as a platform for information exchange, timely conveying company instructions and spirit, as well as feedback on major information.
  8. Establishing the supervisor's authority: Through neat queues, correct standing postures, and the supervisor's "position" and admonitions in front of the team, strengthen the "status" in employees' minds. Daily evaluations form a subconscious "leadership position" for you. Therefore, a scientific and reasonable morning meeting can effectively enhance a team's cohesion, execution, and combat effectiveness, laying a solid foundation for quickly realizing the organization's vision. II. Common Problems with Morning Meetings According to the author's observation, in various enterprises, less than 50% maintain the habit of holding morning meetings, and most of these meetings are only one-way communication or simply arrange work. Some are very casual, and some have even evolved into roll-call meetings. The main reasons why these morning meetings become a mere formality can be summarized as follows:
  9. The company's decision-makers do not elevate morning meetings to a strategic level. There is no management system for morning meetings, no unified requirements for their form or content, and no standards to measure their quality, leading to a situation where everyone acts on their own feelings.
  10. Organizers think morning meetings are unimportant, not realizing their role and importance to their own management, and merely go through the motions.
  11. Some enterprises have been holding them for years but never inspect, monitor, or summarize them, and there are no supporting reward or punishment measures, so over time they become a formality.
  12. Some supervisors have realized the necessity of morning meetings but lack a practical method, so they just go with the flow.
  13. Some morning meetings are one-way, with the supervisor dominating the discussion, and over time employees lose interest.
  14. Some enterprises have requirements for morning meetings but miss the core, such as not even having evaluations of good and bad performance. Evaluation forces supervisors to know the performance of each subordinate in advance; otherwise, there is nothing to evaluate. Some become meetings for arguing, and if the supervisor gets angry, the meeting is canceled. III. Matters Needing Attention in Morning Meetings 1. Time: Can be arranged before work, generally 10-20 minutes (depending on the number of people; if more than 10, consider holding in groups). 2. Location: Generally choose a nearby workplace or office area, but ensure the surrounding environment does not affect the meeting's effectiveness. 3. Line up first, then meeting: All employees must follow unified requirements, with standard standing posture, uniform dress, and neat alignment. The host gives comments in front of the queue. 4. Selection of host: In the initial stage, it is best for the supervisor to lead, and then decide whether to adjust or rotate hosting based on the department's control situation. 5. Host's standing position: The supervisor should stand in front of the queue, and it is best to change position with different reporting targets, but always stand directly in front of the reporter, looking at them, whether commenting or listening to their report. 6. To save time and prevent arguments and off-topic discussions, morning meetings should also follow (preferably using a unified morning meeting form): Do not report normal content, only results, be concise, do not explain reasons or difficulties; matters that can be resolved among members themselves should not be brought to the meeting; morning meetings are not discussion meetings, so do not dwell on any matter; anything involving only a few people or taking a long time should be resolved after the meeting. IV. How to Hold Efficient Morning Meetings Morning meetings are both a concrete extension of strategy implementation and a practical refinement of corporate culture building. Efficient morning meetings require clear objectives, clear structure, a tight pace, and quick resolution. The following order can be considered:
  15. First, individual reports: Each member reports on the completion of key tasks from the previous day (only results, one sentence per task, and publicly commit to a second completion time for unfinished tasks), and the day's key tasks (consider controlling to no more than three).
  16. Second, supervisor comments: After individual reports, the supervisor comments on their work and follows up on the progress of previously assigned tasks.
  17. Third, case sharing: Content can be a summary of experiences or lessons, or learning insights (ensure team members share daily; a sharing duty roster can be announced in advance).
  18. Then, the supervisor gives an overall summary of the previous day's work: Briefly summarize the previous day's work, announce the best and worst employees, and promote corporate values with specific examples.
  19. After that, deploy tasks and boost confidence: Announce the department's key tasks for the day or a certain period and precautions, while praising and affirming to inspire employees.
  20. Finally, communicate company policies: Including notification of major information and introduction or study of system outlines. If it is a production morning meeting, some pre-meeting preparations are needed. For example, arrive early to inspect the production site to understand the status of raw materials, equipment, products, and personnel; then check the duty log (for night shift enterprises) to be aware of problems that occurred during the shift; then check the shift handover records to understand the completion of tasks and precautions; then briefly organize new management regulations, meeting spirit, or major events conveyed by the company; finally, summarize and analyze the previous day's employee performance evaluations. A morning meeting held according to the above steps can generally end within 15 minutes and basically achieve the manager's expectations.
