On March 24, Xinhua Net and the National Sugar and Alcohol Commodities Fair Office jointly released the "2015 Annual Food Brand Word-of-Mouth Report," focusing on annual consumer evaluations of six major food categories: baijiu, instant noodles, beer, liquid milk, beverages, and edible oil, presenting authoritative national data to the public and showcasing the brand image of excellent food companies. The overall word-of-mouth index is a scientific set of indicators for analyzing and evaluating online word-of-mouth, composed of six sub-indices: brand awareness, consumer interaction, quality recognition, corporate reputation, product positive reviews, and brand health. These are weighted and comprehensively evaluated to form the word-of-mouth index evaluation system. Beverages: Coca-Cola, Uni-President, and JDB Lead In the beverage industry, the CSISC Big Data Research Laboratory selected 30 relatively active brands from 135 beverage brands as research subjects. After data processing and analysis, brands such as Coca-Cola, Uni-President, and JDB performed excellently, leading the word-of-mouth rankings; Red Bull, Wahaha, and Master Kong maintained relatively stable word-of-mouth, consistently ranking in the top ten in year-end lists. The CSISC Big Data Research Laboratory also selected 20 relatively active brands from 64 liquid milk brands as research subjects. Data source: CSISC Big Data Research Laboratory In the 2015 beverage industry online word-of-mouth index ranking, Coca-Cola and Uni-President ranked first and second respectively. Among them, Coca-Cola and Uni-President both performed prominently in brand awareness, consumer interaction, quality recognition, and corporate reputation. Their market promotions over the year were full of highlights, leaving many classic cases for the beverage industry. It is worth noting that through marketing activities, Coca-Cola has been continuously endowed with new connotations, making it a long-lasting "big single product" in the beverage industry. Uni-President, on the other hand, follows an innovation route of "blossoming in many places." Among the many products launched in recent years, Hai Zhi Yan and Xiao Ming Tong Xue gradually stood out and gained consumer favor. However, Coca-Cola and Uni-President performed poorly in brand health, reflecting a relatively high amount of negative online information, which eroded their brand word-of-mouth index. Moreover, categories such as cola and tea beverages have been repeatedly criticized for high sugar content, and this has already shown effects in the market. How to maintain a healthy brand image while growing awareness and buzz should be a question every industry enterprise needs to consider. Brands such as JDB, Sprite, Wong Lo Kat, and Red Bull maintained relatively stable word-of-mouth throughout the year, consistently ranking in the top ten; Pepsi, Wahaha, Master Kong, and Scream entered the top ten in the year-end list, but their stability over the year still has room for improvement. In the herbal tea segment, the fierce competition between JDB and Wong Lo Kat over the years, reflected in online word-of-mouth and market response, seems more like "mutual progress." The overall growth of the beverage industry mainly comes from category innovation. For brands in the same category, avoiding vicious competition, jointly cultivating consumer habits and word-of-mouth, and leading market development should be the most important agenda. In recent years, the claim that the beverage industry has reached a growth bottleneck has been frequently mentioned by industry insiders. With the rapid development of the internet, consumers have easier and richer access to information, making them increasingly "wise." How to meet consumer needs and guide brand online word-of-mouth will become increasingly important for major brands. Instant Noodles: Master Kong and Uni-President Lead, Jinmailang Seventh In the instant noodle brand online word-of-mouth index, Master Kong and Uni-President achieved impressive results in the overall word-of-mouth index with their comprehensive advantages, clearly leading other brands. Data source: CSISC Big Data Research Laboratory It is reported that the 2015 instant noodle brand online word-of-mouth index selected 18 relatively active brands based on online volume, including: Baixiang, Demae Itcho, Gongzai Noodles, Guohua, Huafeng, Jinmailang, Master Kong, Nancun Street, Nongshim, Nissin, Samyang, Tianfang, Uni-President, Wugu Daochang, Xiaohuanxiong, Lucky, Yum Yum, and Yongcheng. According to data analysis, in the overall evaluation table of instant noodle brand online word-of-mouth index, as the sales giants of the instant noodle industry, Master Kong and Uni-President ranked first and second in the overall word-of-mouth index with their comprehensive advantages, followed closely by Baixiang, Wugu Daochang, Nongshim, and Nissin. In addition, in terms of brand awareness, brands such as Master Kong, Uni-President, Jinmailang, and Baixiang performed prominently, leading other brands. These enterprises undoubtedly have high brand value, and their new products are more easily recognized by consumers. Brands such as Huafeng, Nissin, and Wugu Daochang have relatively good awareness, with optimistic results. Other brands have lower awareness indices and need to increase investment in brand advertising. In terms of brand health, Uni-President and Master Kong have a relatively high amount of negative information online. In contrast, instant noodle brands with smaller communication scope and lower profiles are more negatively affected by complaints. Although the two instant noodle brands performed well in other dimensions, they also have more negative information in this dimension, which significantly erodes word-of-mouth and should be taken seriously by enterprises. Most other instant noodle brands have some issues, but the overall impact is not significant. From the above table, it can be seen that different instant noodle brands have their own advantages. While maintaining their quality, brands should strive to improve in their weak areas. For enterprises aspiring to strengthen their brands, more attention should be paid to comprehensive competitiveness building, based on long-term development. In today's market economy, any disadvantage of an enterprise becomes an advantage for competitors. The word-of-mouth index analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of enterprises from different dimensions, helping enterprises provide the best decision-making basis. Milk: Yili, Bright, and Mengniu Top Three Data shows that the overall word-of-mouth index of liquid milk brands has a serious gap. Among them, Yili's overall word-of-mouth index is 5.40, and Bright's is 5.01, with little difference between the two. Mengniu's overall word-of-mouth index is 2.42, ranking third, with a significant gap from the top two. It is worth mentioning that Modern Farming's overall word-of-mouth index is 2.37, ranking fourth, closely following Mengniu. Except for New Hope, Junlebao, and Nestlé, whose overall word-of-mouth indices are above 1.1, other dairy companies' indices fall below 1.0, with some local dairy companies as low as 0.01. Data source: CSISC Big Data Research Laboratory In the quality recognition index that consumers care about, Modern Farming became a dark horse, ranking in the top three. Yili, Modern Farming, Mengniu, and Bright ranked in the top four with scores of 8.24, 6.61, 4.60, and 4.41 respectively, showing a relatively balanced performance in this evaluation. From the data of the top ten brands in the brand word-of-mouth index, Yili has the most balanced distribution of positive indicators, with high stability in the word-of-mouth index, but its health index is low, which has a significant impact on the overall; Bright's advantages are prominent in product positive reviews and consumer interaction. In terms of its overall, its health index accounts for a relatively small proportion, and its word-of-mouth management is generally good; New Hope and Nestlé clearly benefit from their consumer interaction index, which contributes significantly to their overall word-of-mouth index, but their product positive reviews need to be strengthened; overall, the product positive review indices of brands such as Junlebao, Sanyuan, Bright, and Mengniu contribute significantly to their total index scores. The research report also conducted statistical analysis from a gender perspective, finding that due to the structure of netizens, men have a higher proportion of attention to liquid milk than women, accounting for 56.33% of all netizens. Consumers aged 20-39 are the main group paying attention to and purchasing liquid milk, accounting for 69.61%, and these groups mostly come from economically developed regions, especially Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Beijing, and other areas. Edible Oil: Arawana, Fulinmen, and Luhua Top Three In the composition of the word-of-mouth index for the top ten brands, brands such as Arawana, Fulinmen, Luhua, Yuanbao, and Duoli have relatively balanced distribution across the six dimensions. These brands have higher stability in their word-of-mouth index, focus on comprehensive brand building, and pay attention to product quality, brand promotion, and consumer experience. They also achieve high product positive reviews and corporate reputation, and have strong ability to withstand negative market impacts. Data source: CSISC Big Data Research Laboratory According to analysis, most brands' word-of-mouth index composition shows a pattern of "few strong, many weak," indicating that these brands still have strong plasticity and significant development space. Jiusan's positive review indicator is relatively poor compared to its other dimensions; although Xiwang has obvious advantages in consumer interaction, its positive reviews still have much room for improvement. Classifying netizens who pay attention to edible oil brands by age group, people aged 30-39 are the main group, accounting for 40% in total, those aged 20-29 account for 33%, and those under 19 have the lowest attention to edible oil, only 8% of the total. People aged 19 and below are mostly not yet married or still in school, so they pay less attention to household edible oil. Beer: Tsingtao, Yanjing, and Snow Rank Top Three In the brand awareness dimension, Tsingtao, Yanjing, and Snow ranked in the top three, with indices of 7.78, 6.66, and 5.9 respectively. The report points out that these brands have existed for a long time and are well known to most consumers. Enterprises owning these brands undoubtedly have high intangible assets. In the consumer interaction index, five brands performed excellently: Tsingtao, Carlsberg, Heineken, Snow, and Yanjing. Budweiser, Harbin, and Zhujiang performed relatively poorly in consumer interaction. The report suggests that such brands should strengthen communication with consumer groups, obtain the latest feedback from consumers, and meet consumer needs. Data source: CSISC Big Data Research Laboratory For beer companies, product quality, positive reviews, and health are key indicators for measuring corporate brand image. The report points out that Tsingtao and Snow, due to their oligopolistic market position, have higher quality recognition than other brands. Yanjing, Heineken, and Kirin performed well in quality recognition. Budweiser, Harbin, and Carlsberg performed poorly, which is inconsistent with their high brand awareness. Based on data collected from e-commerce platforms, Harbin and Tsingtao left other brands far behind in product positive reviews, with scores as high as 7.07 and 6.80 respectively. Snow, Yanjing, and Budweiser performed average, without a clear gap. In terms of brand health, Tsingtao and Snow have a relatively high amount of negative information online. Although both performed excellently in other dimensions, negative information significantly erodes word-of-mouth. In terms of corporate reputation, which enterprises value highly, Snow and Tsingtao led other brands with overwhelming advantages. Yanjing and Kirin were in the middle, while most other brands performed average in this dimension. Baijiu: Moutai and Wuliangye Dominate From 361 baijiu brands, 20 relatively active brands were selected as research subjects. According to data analysis, Wuliangye, Kweichow Moutai, and Luzhou Laojiao achieved impressive results in the overall word-of-mouth index with their comprehensive advantages, leading other brands. Fenjiu, Yanghe, and Langjiu ranked among the top in the overall word-of-mouth index, while other brands performed relatively poorly and have significant development space. Data source: CSISC Big Data Research Laboratory In terms of corporate reputation, Kweichow Moutai and Wuliangye led other brands with overwhelming advantages, while other brands performed poorly in this dimension. In terms of brand consumer interaction, Wuliangye performed most prominently in this dimension, with Kweichow Moutai and Luzhou Laojiao performing excellently. Brands such as Gold Liquor and Guojiao 1573 had very low consumer interaction indices, with much room for improvement. Among the dimensions affecting the word-of-mouth index of most baijiu brands, quality is the key factor. The report also released the age, gender, and regional characteristics of netizens paying attention to baijiu brands. Classifying netizens who pay attention to baijiu brands by age group, consumers aged 30-39, due to business dealings and social engagements, are the main group paying attention to and purchasing baijiu, accounting for nearly 50% in total. Those over 40 and under 19 have the lowest attention to baijiu, together accounting for 19% of the total. In terms of gender, men pay four times more attention to baijiu brands than women. In terms of regional distribution, netizens with high attention to baijiu brand word-of-mouth in 2015 are mostly distributed in economically developed regions, with more in Guangdong Province, Beijing, Zhejiang Province, and Jiangsu Province. This is mainly because people in economically developed areas have more established habits of searching for things of interest via the internet, and internet penetration is higher. In addition, populous provinces such as Shandong and Henan also have high attention to baijiu. Jiang Qing, Assistant Director of the China Statistical Information Service Center, stated that the development of the internet has made word-of-mouth no longer limited to acquaintances. Consumers can publicly express their views on a certain product or brand through social media, and this rich internet information makes purchasing behavior complex. If enterprises remain in the seller's market business philosophy, they will be at a disadvantage in market competition and may even be eliminated by the market.
