On January 17, the China Quality Association User Committee released the "2016 Beverage Industry Satisfaction" report, showing that consumers prefer packaged water, while carbonated soft drinks have low preference. The 2016 beverage industry satisfaction survey covered six major categories: packaged water, functional drinks, tea drinks, protein drinks, juice drinks, and carbonated drinks, encompassing 116 specific beverage products from 52 mainstream brands. Over 12,000 consumers participated, and more than 10,000 valid samples were ultimately obtained. The report shows that consumers prefer packaged water, with about 24% of respondents indicating they prefer drinking packaged water. Functional drinks and protein drinks both scored above 80 points in satisfaction, making them the beverages consumers are most satisfied with. The drinks with higher recommendation rates are functional drinks and protein drinks. Although packaged water ranks first among all beverages with a 24% preference rate, its satisfaction score ranks behind functional drinks, protein drinks, and carbonated drinks. The preference rates for functional drinks, tea drinks, and juice drinks are very close, but their comprehensive satisfaction indices differ significantly. In recent years, with the popularity of various household water purification devices and small kitchen appliances, a trend of consumers using DIY methods to obtain purified water, juice, and tea drinks is forming. Relevant manufacturers must make breakthroughs in product quality, cost-effectiveness, purchase convenience, and value-added features to regain consumer recognition. Functional drinks often have clear functional orientations. The functional drink brands evaluated in this survey showed relatively obvious effects in refreshing the mind, supplementing trace elements, and replenishing water and salt after exercise. The survey shows that consumers of functional drinks mention "products meeting personal needs" at a much higher rate than other types of beverages, which is also one of the important reasons for their higher user satisfaction. Among the many keywords, consumers mention "good product taste" the most. As an FMCG, beverages are more about satisfying consumers' immediate needs, such as quenching thirst, cutting grease, refreshing, bringing pleasure, or even euphoria. This is not only the main means of increasing consumer stickiness but also the key to supporting the development of various beverages. The report points out that the concept of overall health is the mainstream health trend in recent years, and consumers' preference for high-sugar, high-calorie beverages continues to decline. In fact, carbonated drinks, with a consumer preference of only 7%, currently maintain a certain user stickiness only through consumers' recognition of taste and personal habits. The main consumer groups, the post-80s and post-90s, many of whom developed the habit during their teenage years. The main consumer groups in today's society—the "60-90 families"—represent the main growth points for future market demand: the post-60s, who focus on overall health, pay attention to packaged water and tea drinks, while the post-90s, who like "new and novel" things, favor functional drinks, packaged water, and protein drinks the most. It can be seen that products like packaged water, especially high-end water, which can meet both basic needs and personalized needs such as status symbols and social recognition, will have a good growth trend. Protein drinks, including milk-containing drinks and plant protein drinks, can provide a series of health-related functions such as brain nourishment, calcium supplementation, digestion promotion, and sleep improvement, making the post-80s, who face greater social pressure, the main supporters of protein drinks. In recent years, consumers' preference and recognition for juice drinks have been continuously declining. For juice drinks, consumers are not only more picky about taste and quality, but the development of juicers and slow juicers also gives consumers more alternatives, including the simplest and most direct way of eating fruit. -END-
