# Ye Guofu Gives 31 Million Yuan to Yonghui Employees

> On the afternoon of October 13, Yonghui Superstores' stock price surged, closing up 5.16% at 4.89 yuan per share, with market value rising 2.178 billion yuan to 44.377 billion yuan. At a new product launch that morning, CEO Wang Shoucheng addressed the achievements and challenges of the transformation year, admitting the company is still immature in learning from Pangdonglai's model but committed to long-termism, aiming to survive in 2-3 years and become a national supermarket brand in 5-10 years.

On the afternoon of October 13, Yonghui Superstores' stock price suddenly surged, rising over 6.8% at one point, eventually closing at 4.89 yuan per share, up 5.16%, with total market value increasing by 2.178 billion yuan to 44.377 billion yuan. That morning, Yonghui Superstores held a new product launch. Wang Shoucheng, CEO of Yonghui Superstores and head of national store adjustments, addressed the achievements and challenges of the transformation year. The newly appointed post-90s CEO stated that Yonghui is not yet mature and learning from Pangdonglai's model is still in its early stages, but Yonghui will adhere to long-termism, hoping to cross the life-and-death line in 2-3 years and truly become a national supermarket brand in 5-10 years.
# **Over 80% of Adjusted Stores See Traffic Growth**
The launch began at 9:30 AM, with Yonghui's management team appearing collectively. Besides Wang Shoucheng, She Xianping, Vice President and Chief Product Officer, also gave a speech, both dressed in dark suits. In the guest seats, Ye Guofu, founder of Miniso and head of Yonghui's reform leadership group, became the focus of attention.
Sitting in the guest seats, Ye Guofu wore a black T-shirt. Although he did not take the stage to speak, he wrote seriously on the meeting paper: "If the direction is right, don't fear the long road. If you've started, don't fear slowness. If you believe, don't change again. Every step forward is success; we firmly believe we will achieve great victory." These seemingly simple words revealed his firm determination for Yonghui's reform.
Ye Guofu's sentiment was not unfounded. Wang Shoucheng mentioned in his speech that over the past year, Yonghui's Pangdonglai-style adjustments have achieved some results: over 80% of adjusted stores saw traffic growth, and over 60% of adjusted stores in the stable phase achieved profitability levels exceeding the five-year high. However, due to proactive deep strategic adjustments and closure of long-term loss-making stores, Yonghui's operational scale has returned to levels of ten years ago. At the same time, Yonghui is still in a painful transition period with performance pressure.
Wang Shoucheng admitted that for efficiency, Yonghui neglected employee happiness; for scale, neglected customer experience; and for price, harmed partners. These remarks seemed to respond to external criticisms about Yonghui, such as inadequate employee treatment, improper employee relations, and unguaranteed supplier interests.
However, Wang Shoucheng's speech focused more on emphasizing Yonghui's beautiful and benevolent philosophy and purpose, such as valuing customer experience and employee care. He cited examples like Yonghui stores offering multiple flavors of tea to customers, and significant salary increases for employees at Quanzhou Puxi Wanda store. As of August this year, Ye Guofu had distributed 31 million yuan in dividends to Yonghui employees.
She Xianping's speech, besides introducing several private-label products, focused on enhancing product strength, reshaping the supply chain, and Yonghui itself. On site, he called out to Yonghui's partners: no channel fees, no delayed payments, no malicious monopolies. An industry insider told the author that this can be seen as a specific response and strategic correction to the historical issue Wang Shoucheng mentioned about "harming partners for price."
Meanwhile, She Xianping also displayed two QR codes: one as the only channel for supplier onboarding, and one for integrity reporting. This move sent a meaningful signal.
In the live comment section of Yonghui's launch, netizens were divided into two camps. Some said Yonghui's progress was evident and business had improved after the Pangdonglai adjustments, while others commented that after adjustments, service remained the same, only products became more refined.
Zhang Han, a former Yonghui employee, told the author that it is still better than not adjusting; at least the environment has improved. However, he also expressed concerns about whether profitability can be achieved, especially whether the money spent on adjustments can be recouped.
# **Learning from Pangdonglai to Develop Private Labels**
To achieve profitability as soon as possible, Yonghui is fully developing private labels following Pangdonglai's philosophy. Products mentioned included Norwegian salmon, fresh milk, prunes, and orange juice. Zhang Han observed that this time, standard products supplied by brands were not mentioned. These are price-controlled by brands and can be sold by anyone, leading to price competition and thus no profit guarantee. Conversely, private labels are sourced directly from origin factories, offering higher profits, which is why many supermarkets are vigorously developing private labels.
During the nearly one-hour speech, Wang Shoucheng repeatedly mentioned learning from Pangdonglai. He also played a video of Yu Donglai encouraging Yonghui. Wang Shoucheng said Yu Donglai gave him three hugs. In other words, Yu Donglai strongly supports Yonghui's Pangdonglai-style adjustments. Zhang Han believes that with the endorsement of Pangdonglai and Yu Donglai, the quality of Yonghui's private labels can be guaranteed, and consumer trust can be enhanced. After all, Pangdonglai's products are a guarantee of popularity.
Why is Pangdonglai willing to endorse Yonghui's private labels? This brings us to the third speaker at the launch, Pang Xiaowei. He holds multiple important roles in retail and investment and is also a key figure connecting Pangdonglai and Yonghui Superstores. In January 2025, Yonghui announced the establishment of a wholly-owned subsidiary, "Zhejiang Huilian Supply Chain Co., Ltd.," focused on private label development, with Pang Xiaowei as its legal representative.
Pang Xiaowei has a very close relationship with Yu Donglai, and it can be said he is one of the key promoters of the Pangdonglai model going national. Moreover, he co-founded the Lianshang Donglai Business Research Institute with Yu Donglai, where Pang Xiaowei serves as dean and Yu Donglai as chief mentor.
Zhang Han believes that with his deep relationship with Yu Donglai, Pang Xiaowei has become an important advisor and promoter in Yonghui's process of learning from Pangdonglai and adjusting stores. The author learned that Yonghui's private label team has moved to Pang Xiaowei's office in Hangzhou. At the launch, Pang Xiaowei listed the selection logic and process for multiple Yonghui private label products. "I want to achieve people through products, and achieve products through people," he summarized his philosophy at the end of his speech.
In Zhang Han's view, as the theme of the launch suggests, Yonghui's current big idea is to have a sense of everyday life. The proportion of bakery processing and fresh produce is increasing; they are livelihood products with high repurchase rates and are the best traffic-driving products.
Looking to the future, Wang Shoucheng said in his speech, "Yonghui should not make mistakes again." This statement reflects Yonghui's determination to bid farewell to the old model and firmly shift to quality retail.
