**Five signs that you are experiencing "job burnout"**

"Job burnout syndrome," also known as "occupational exhaustion syndrome," is a psychological exhaustion phenomenon triggered by work. It is the feeling of physical and mental fatigue and energy depletion experienced by employees under the heavy pressure of work. Specific manifestations include:

1. Physical exhaustion. "Tiredness" is the most prominent feeling, as if you are being drained bit by bit, and life gradually slips out of control as you weaken.
2. Emotional exhaustion. The former enthusiasm and vitality are gone, replaced by harshness and impatience. Hurt, vulnerability, or any unbearable feelings eventually turn into suppressed anger.
3. Interpersonal detachment. You lose the desire to confide in others, and as you become increasingly indifferent to others, you also feel increasingly "ignored" by them.
4. Lack of enjoyment in life. You refuse to lighten your load, and any stimulation becomes unbearable for someone already overwhelmed.
5. Work disengagement. You can no longer give wholeheartedly, but act more out of responsibility and commitment. This is accompanied by decreasing satisfaction with both work and yourself, even doubting your career choice, yet lacking the courage to change.

**Three types of people are most prone to burnout**

Research has found that three types of people are most susceptible to job burnout:

1. Those with low self-esteem, perfectionist tendencies, and an external locus of control. They strive to be important to everyone, making both career and life equally brilliant, like a candle burning at both ends, ultimately becoming victims of their own achievements.
2. Those who experience career setbacks. They work the hardest but see others promoted; after years of work, they realize they are not suited for their current job... Whether it's various injustices, suffocating systems, unrecognized talent, or conflicting values, these can all become direct triggers for burnout.
3. Newcomers to the workplace. Newcomers often want to do better but frequently find things go against their wishes. When youthful ideals and drive meet the harsh reality, the cost is suppressing themselves.

**"Endure the five-year hard labor period"**

Burnout first arises from psychological exhaustion, leading to a general weariness with life and existence, which manifests as weariness with work. Beyond work, there is also a lack of vitality in life. Psychologists have found that regardless of occupation or education level, the first five years of work are always hard labor. This stage means you cannot yet utilize your expertise and potential professionally; you are directed by others.

On the other hand, in interpersonal relationships, you are managed by others, with no freedom of time or work assignment, leading to a sense of passivity. Thus, work itself feels lowly, tedious, and trivial. However, the first five years are hard labor; after five years, you may enter the "skilled worker" stage, where you can handle tasks independently in your professional field, leveraging your experience and strengths, though still managed by others in interpersonal aspects. After 10 or 15 years, you may reach a stage of enjoyable work, where you can take charge, utilize your strengths, and begin to reap the rewards.

**Have clear inner goals**

The most fundamental way to alleviate burnout is to have inner goals. Understand why you work and why you live. If your goals are only for yourself, life becomes meaningless. Therefore, when satisfying personal needs no longer drives us to pursue more, we need to give our persistence and effort a "reason." Ask yourself what meaning you intend to give your work and what you want to give to life. By discovering and creating, by giving work meaning, you add value to it.

Additionally, when there is a gap between your goals and reality, turn that gap into motivation. Make the gap your next goal, break big goals into small ones—you can't become fat in one bite. So regularly evaluate yourself.

**Learn to balance work and rest**

Furthermore, maintain regular exercise: at least five times a week, each session over 30 minutes; at least half a day of outdoor activity weekly; and at least one week of out-of-province travel every quarter or at least every six months.

**Enterprises should manage employees differently**

From the enterprise perspective, managers can adopt different management styles for different employees. For those who like novelty, use job rotation to let them experience the joy of different work. For perfectionists, avoid putting too much pressure on them. Secondly, implement a "sunshine system" that allows employees to fully invest their psychological energy into work, minimizing energy spent on interpersonal relationships.
