On August 15, Tsingtao Brewery released its 2019 interim report. In the first half of 2019, Tsingtao Brewery Co., Ltd. achieved operating revenue of RMB 16.551 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.22%; net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company was RMB 1.631 billion, a year-on-year increase of 25.21%.
The report stated that the main reasons for the increase in revenue were the increase in product sales volume and the optimization of product structure during the reporting period.
In the first half of 2019, Tsingtao Brewery achieved beer sales volume of 4.73 million kiloliters, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%. Among this, Tsingtao Beer achieved sales of 2.36 million kiloliters, a year-on-year increase of 6.3%, continuing to maintain its competitive advantage in the domestic mid-to-high-end product market.
The company continued to deepen the implementation of its brand strategy with Tsingtao Beer as the first brand and Laoshan Beer as the second. It actively carried out brand promotion around its product and regional strategies, fully leveraging the brand and quality advantages of Tsingtao Beer, continuously enhancing the mid-to-high-end brand positioning of Tsingtao Beer, and promoting the optimization and upgrading of product structure. This helped Tsingtao Classic, Tsingtao Pure Draft, new specialty products, and Laoshan Beer to become stronger, better, and larger, accelerating the transformation and upgrading to high value-added products.
In the first half of 2019, Tsingtao Brewery's operating cost was RMB 9.912 billion, an increase of 7.89% over the same period last year. The main reason was the increase in prices of major raw materials, the increase in product sales volume, and changes in product structure during the reporting period, leading to a year-on-year increase in operating costs.
Selling expenses were RMB 2.989 billion, an increase of 10.86% over the same period last year, mainly due to the increase in sales volume, which led to a year-on-year increase in logistics costs, employee compensation, and brand expenses.
Net cash flow from operating activities was RMB 3.818 billion, a decrease of 8.75% over the same period last year, mainly due to the year-on-year increase in cash paid for purchasing goods and receiving services during the reporting period.
In the financial report, Tsingtao Brewery also stated that in the face of the severe challenge of rising raw material costs, the company, while striving to improve product structure and prices, continued to optimize cost control and expense investment, strengthened the management of expense effectiveness, and took multiple measures to reduce costs and increase efficiency, maintaining the company's sustained and stable growth in volume and profit.
In the first half of 2019, Tsingtao Brewery actively expanded domestic and international markets. Through measures such as brand and product mix optimization, it achieved sustained growth in sales volume, sales revenue, and net profit, and continued to enhance brand value.
In addition, Tsingtao Brewery continuously promoted innovation, built an efficient supply chain for synergy and efficiency, optimized centralized procurement bidding strategies, and actively digested the pressure of rising costs. It used new intelligent manufacturing technologies to achieve intelligent and green production, improve resource allocation efficiency, accelerate the conversion of old and new growth drivers, and maintain differentiated competitive advantages. It actively promoted the development of new channels and new business formats, accelerated the market layout of new retail and new business formats, continuously improved the e-commerce sales channel system, and met consumers' purchasing needs and consumption experience in the Internet era through multiple channels, opening up new growth space for the sustainable and healthy development of Tsingtao Brewery.
Currently, Tsingtao Brewery has 62 wholly-owned and controlled beer production enterprises in China, as well as 2 associated and joint venture beer production enterprises, distributed across 20 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions. Its scale and market share lead the domestic beer industry.
From the perspective of the overall market, in the first half of 2019, China's beer production reached 19.488 million kiloliters, a slight year-on-year increase of 0.8%. The market developed steadily, thanks to the continuous upgrading of consumption structure and further optimization of industry capacity and product structure.
In recent years, the overall beer sales growth rate has been faster than the industry growth rate, and the company has continued to promote the layout of mid-to-high-end products. It is expected that with consumption upgrading, the company will continue to benefit from the upgrading of beer product structure in the future, and the contribution of average price increases to performance will continue to grow.
