# The Market: Only Watch and Act

> The market is a platform, a battlefield without gunpowder, and an arena for marketing elites. It is not imagined or planned but built through action. When opportunities are absent, watching with intent is a high-level practice; when they arise, one must act decisively.

The market is a platform, a battlefield without gunpowder, and an arena where marketing elites compete. Every day, bloody stories of capital success and failure unfold. Marketing elites surge forward like fish crossing a river, but beneath the glorious facade of waving flags and galloping horses lie the dust of those who have fallen, their bones scattered. The market is a meat grinder, needing fresh blood to dye its noisy, bloody passion. In this arena of fame and fortune, there are those who are neither referees nor fighters, like flies in a gladiatorial ring, clinging to the marketing battlefield with a bloodthirsty persistence, flitting lightly through the dust of marketing. They are like lively larks, singing of a bright future, or like crows on dead branches, croaking mournfully to create a tragic atmosphere for their own downfall.

The market is not imagined, not planned, and not described in words; it is built through action. The uniquely Chinese planning method "brainstorming" is an extreme form of imagining the market. A group of people prone to fantasy gather around an object in a comfortable, smoke-filled, temperature-controlled room, pondering, scratching their heads, and playing with ideas until they collectively produce a result, which they dress up as marketing, planning, or YY (wild fantasy). They then sell this as a bible to those helpless in the market. What is the result? Only heaven knows, but the fantasizers never test it in the market, so they bear no responsibility for the outcome. They are like quack doctors who claim to cure all diseases: if the illness happens to disappear, they are hailed as divine; if it persists, they confidently say that without their treatment, the patient would already be six feet under. The market is a history forged in iron and blood, and history has nothing to do with imagination; it is about participation and action.

When there is no opportunity to act, or when the environment is not suitable for confident action, watching becomes a highly refined practice. At such times, one can watch with the mindset of acting, carefully discerning the essence behind the market's noisy surface. When the right moment and scene emerge, one must strike without hesitation and participate in the market; action becomes the main theme. This is like the African cheetah: the surrounding herd of antelopes does not disturb its half-closed, sleepy eyes, and its lazy posture does not affect the speed of its strike. When the opportunity comes, it delivers a lethal blow.

The market only offers watching and acting; these are the basic laws of survival and unique skills for enduring in the market. The level of marketing skill is ultimately reflected in the realm of acting and watching. Watching requires not being seduced by fantasies or disturbed by noise; one must focus. When the opportunity that belongs to you appears, you must act with unwavering determination and spare no effort to achieve your goal. After years of practice, a seasoned marketer's realm of watching and acting condenses into a feeling, or professional intuition, as accurate as the cheetah's strike. Can such intuition be produced by brainstorming?

In the market, a marketer who does not act is unworthy of the title. If so-called external brains or planning agencies could directly participate in market practice with their brainstormed ideas and prove their value through results, that would be a pragmatic move worthy of respect from the marketing community.

Let me end this rambling discussion with a quote from my teacher, Chan Zhong Shuo Chan: "Those who like to brag are common in the market, such as those who make a living by analyzing the market and bragging, called masters or experts. Such people are parasites on the market. A true hunter only observes and operates; words cannot kill wolves. The market is a hunting ground. First, you must become a good hunter, and a hunter must first be accustomed to silence. If there is any truth, it is silent. What can be spoken is nothing but the secretion of human thought, stinking to high heaven. When you truly cannot speak, then there is nothing you cannot speak; speaking without speaking is true speech."
