# Ten Details to Note in Street Promotions

> As spring arrives, companies begin planning street promotions to directly engage consumers and boost sales. This article offers ten key considerations from the perspective of FMCG food manufacturers, including location, timing, equipment, atmosphere, promoters, information gathering, training and incentives, leadership attention, contingency plans, and avoiding conflicts with existing customers.

Soon it will be March, when grass grows and orioles fly, and even the north begins to feel warm. Some companies are starting to prepare for street promotions again, because meeting consumers directly, communicating to form sales, and effectively promoting the company's products is a good business. So what should be noted in street promotions? From the perspective of some fast-moving consumer food manufacturers, I have the following suggestions:

First, location. Everyone knows that choosing a store or buying a house emphasizes location, and the same applies to promotional activities. For general packaged food, it's best to choose locations with high foot traffic, such as community entrances, near bus stops, in small morning and evening markets, at the gates of large organizations with many commuters, near schools, or at supermarket entrances. With foot traffic, the promotional effect can be realized, just like playing at home in sports; promotions need an audience.

Second, timing. Choose the right time each day. Foot traffic is a factor, but timing is also important. For example, when students are at school, they buy less, and the same for workers during work hours. But after work or school, it's different.

Third, equipment. Even gaming requires equipment, and street promotions need it even more. For example, display stands, loudspeakers, promotional flyers, bags for products, tasting cups, change, etc. All equipment should be designed for easy promotion, easy purchase, and customer convenience.

Fourth, atmosphere. Street promotions rely on impulse buying and temporary consumption. Most customers are not prepared to buy; they are not deliberately coming to consume. Only when your promotional atmosphere is right and stimulates consumers' desire to buy can consumption occur. Atmosphere comes from the following aspects: 1. sound, 2. crowd, 3. enthusiasm, 4. attractiveness, 5. environment. If you do well in these five aspects, the atmosphere will be boosted.

Fifth, promoters. People always play the most important positive or negative role. There are many requirements for promoters, but I won't go into too much detail here. However, it is essential that promoters appear likable and approachable, have certain professional skills, can clearly explain the product's basic information and promotional policies such as price, and have enthusiasm, politeness, and charisma that influences others.

Sixth, information gathering. Since you are facing direct consumers on the street, consumers are also directly facing the manufacturer. Genuine suggestions and opinions are less likely to be distorted here. Don't just sell things; use this channel to listen to consumers' voices, which is especially important for manufacturers.

Seventh, training and incentives. Training refers to two aspects: one is the manufacturer's training for sales and promotional staff, and the other is the promoters' training of customers, including product usage, functions, and precautions. Incentives include both positive and negative ones. How to reward good promoters and how to punish otherwise, to promote a sense of responsibility among staff.

Eighth, leadership attention. Work generally originates from leaders and should end with leaders. That is, during the process, leaders should visit the front line, to show concern and share hardships, as well as to supervise and guide. Leaders should not just assign tasks but lead the work. Things that receive leadership attention are usually done differently.

Ninth, backup plans. Weather changes, street appearance requirements, adjusting location, time, personnel, or even products should have alternative options; otherwise, time and efficiency will be greatly discounted.

Tenth, avoidance. If the street promotion is a unilateral activity by the company, be careful not to conflict with existing customers in terms of time, space, or other interests. We should do addition, not create contradictions and subtraction after replacement.

In summary, street promotion is a systematic project, not a temporary or improvised task. Done well, it can achieve twice the result with half the effort for market development; otherwise, it may be the opposite.
