# Since You Work for a Company, This Is How You Should Do It!

> 1. No matter who you work for, learn for yourself and objectively create value for the company. I never felt I was working for others; I was working for myself, focusing on what I could learn. 2. Rewards are proportional to investment; coasting is wasting life. Learn to do ordinary things better than others.

1. No matter who you work for, learn for yourself and objectively create value for the company.
When I worked for domestic companies at Founder or for foreigners at Yahoo, the biggest difference between me and others was that I never felt I was working for them. I am probably a very confident person; I felt I was working for myself. Because when I do anything, my first consideration is what I can learn from it. What I learn cannot be taken away by others, and objectively it may create value for the company.
2. Rewards are proportional to investment; coasting is wasting life. Learn to do ordinary things better than others.
If I just go through the motions when given a task, it's easy to do, but after finishing, don't you feel you're wasting your life? You can do a task to 60 points, and you can do it easily. After finishing, you repeat it every day, work three hours a day, and then you're done. You go to work every day with nothing to do, then go home to your thirty acres of land, a cow, wife, and kids on a warm kang. But how do you improve? After leaving school, learning is no longer about attending classes or reading books. It's through work, through doing tasks and projects, accumulating experience, and dealing with many people. Because I have a competitive personality, I want to do even ordinary things better than others. When everyone does something ordinary, I want to do it differently, to exceed expectations. It takes a lot of time and effort, but in the end, I find my gains are the greatest because I put in the effort. Your gains are proportional to your investment.
3. Coasting is actually cheating yourself. The boss loses a small amount of annual salary, but you lose your youth.
If you coast, sorry, you're actually cheating yourself. Many people coast in big companies. How much can you cheat the boss? If your annual salary is 100,000, as a mid-to-low-level income, you coast for 10 years and only cheat the boss out of 1 million. For many companies, having someone coast 1 million doesn't hurt much. But if you don't work hard for 10 years, you waste 10 years. One day the company might go bankrupt, or they might discover you're a slacker and fire you. What do you do then? Do you think you're competitive? Unless you have a rich dad or a family business, which is not in our consideration, that's not my philosophy.
4. Opportunities are always for those who are prepared. Complaining is useless; success comes from your accumulation of abilities.
If you start from scratch, you'll find that society is increasingly fair. I think there are many opportunities. Don't be a cynic every day, cursing others. At least with the internet and IT, look at Ding Lei, Ma Huateng, and Li Yanhong—they were all ordinary people. They succeeded in this industry. What does that show? It shows that if you work hard, you also have a chance to succeed. Many employees at Baidu and Google, not to mention Li Yanhong or the big shots, many employees involved in these projects are also successful. Many have bought cars and houses in Beijing, feeling a sense of achievement. What does this rely on? It relies on your accumulation of abilities.
5. If you don't like the company, leave decisively and quickly. If you stay, you must go all out to do the work well.
If you feel you really don't like the company or the boss, resign immediately. Don't see him for even a minute. That's my style. Why waste your life on the boss's mistakes? If you decide today not to leave and to work at the company, I think you should do the work well. Some people say there are various problems, like "I have personality, I don't like doing this." I say, brother, personality is a privilege of successful people. When you're successful, you can afford to have personality, and others look up to you. Before you succeed, can personality buy you a house? If personality could buy a house, I'd be more personality than you. My whole family has personality, but it can't buy a house.
