# Senior HR Explains Social Insurance and Housing Fund: How to Get Your Money Back!

> After working as an HR in an internet company for three years, I often get asked about the details of social insurance and housing fund. This article explains how to make the most of your contributions, including tips on withdrawing your housing fund and claiming benefits.

I've been working as an HR in an internet company for three years, and I have my own office. The only time I see colleagues is when they come to ask me questions. Interestingly, they rarely ask about company policies or how to use the mobile attendance app, nor do they come to check their field visit records. Most come to ask about the details of social insurance and housing fund.
**Today, I'll explain this topic.**
Every month when salaries are paid, I'm happy!! But then I become unhappy because the pay slip shows various deductions. I check the attendance records on Dingdong Sign-in, and there are no absences. Of course, the deductions are not for lateness but for social insurance and housing fund. I just feel that the money deducted from the pay slip, whether for insurance or housing fund, is our hard-earned money!
**Part 1**
**How to Pay Pension Insurance Wisely?**
First: High deductions for social insurance and housing fund are not necessarily bad; in the end, you can get more back.
**Pension insurance contribution ratio: employer pays 20%, individual pays 8%.**
The individual contribution is 8% of your average monthly salary from the previous year, fully credited to your personal account. Generally, you need to pay for 15 years to enjoy a pension for life upon retirement. So, if you want a pension, make sure you start paying at least 15 years before retirement.
Note: If your cumulative contribution years reach 15, you will receive a monthly basic pension after retirement. If there are gaps, you can make up the payments before retirement.
**Part 2**
**Housing Fund Is Not Just for Buying a House**
Based on the company's actual situation, the contribution ratio is chosen, with the maximum not exceeding 12% of the average employee salary, and both employer and employee pay half each. If your salary is 8,000 yuan, the employer contributes 800 yuan, and you contribute 800 yuan, so your monthly housing fund account should have 1,600 yuan.
Keeping the housing fund in the account is not cost-effective because the current year's contributions earn only demand deposit interest, while previous years' contributions earn only three-month fixed deposit interest. Even without considering RMB depreciation, the returns are extremely low. Therefore, try to withdraw your housing fund as much as possible. Here's how!
**1. Buy a house, young man!**
Note that the withdrawal time for housing fund is from the 1st to the 20th of each month, and loans are not processed on weekends. The current housing fund loan rate is 2.75% per annum for loans within 5 years, and 3.25% for over 5 years, which is much lower than commercial loan rates. If you don't take a loan to buy a house, you can withdraw the housing fund in one lump sum.
**2. Rent a house, young man!**
If you haven't bought a house and have continuously paid the housing fund for three months, you can use it to pay rent!
If you live in public rental housing, prepare the rental contract and proof of rent payment. If you live in a commercial housing, in addition to the rental contract, you need to get a certificate from the housing authority stating that you and your spouse have no property. Then take the rental contract, relevant certificates, and your ID to the housing fund center to handle the procedures.
Within a week, the money will be transferred to your personal account, but each withdrawal must ensure at least 500 yuan remains in your housing fund account.
**3. You can also pay property fees**
Low-income families in financial difficulty can withdraw housing fund to pay property service fees.
**4. Treat major diseases**
If a family member suffers from a major illness or undergoes major surgery and is hospitalized, the employee and spouse can apply to withdraw housing fund. The application should be made within one year from the discharge date, and the withdrawal amount should not exceed the portion of hospitalization expenses borne by the individual.
**5. Build, renovate, or overhaul housing**
If you build, renovate, or overhaul your own house on rural collective land and use a housing loan, you and your spouse can apply to withdraw housing fund, with the amount not exceeding the construction or renovation costs.
**Part 3**
**Unemployment Insurance Is Useless**
Unemployment insurance contribution ratio: employer pays 2%, individual pays 1%.
You must pay unemployment insurance for at least one year to enjoy benefits. Generally, one year of payment gives you two months of benefits, two years gives four months, but the maximum lifetime is 24 months.
If you resign voluntarily, you get nothing! Although unemployment insurance is mandatory, even if you become unemployed, most people cannot claim it. Only those registered as unemployed at the street office can apply.
**Part 4**
**Medical Insurance Is Not Only for Hospital Use**
Many people think medical insurance is only for hospital visits, but it has more uses.
Medical insurance contribution ratio: employer pays 9%, individual pays 2%, plus 10 yuan for major illness coordination, which only covers hospitalization.
With a medical insurance card, you can not only choose medical treatment within designated medical institutions in the city but also purchase medicines at retail pharmacies.
**Part 5**
**Pay Attention to the Timeliness of Work Injury Insurance**
The contribution ratio is determined by the industry of the employer, ranging from 0.5% to 2%, and individuals do not pay. So it won't appear on your pay slip.
Many people think that after an injury at work, as long as you provide a hospital certificate, you can apply for work injury identification at any time.
Wrong! Work injury insurance has a time limit! In the event of an accident injury or diagnosis/identification of an occupational disease as per occupational disease prevention laws, the employer should apply to the social insurance administrative department for work injury identification within 30 days from the date of the accident or diagnosis/identification.
**Part 6**
**Don't Miss the 4-Month Maternity Subsidy**
If you are a woman, after discharge from the hospital, quickly submit all materials to your employer: marriage certificate, single-child certificate, medical records, invoices for check-ups and hospitalization surgery, hospitalization list, and discharge summary. You can enjoy a 4-month salary subsidy.
If you are a man, and your wife has no job or her employer doesn't pay insurance, and you have paid maternity insurance for more than one year when she gives birth, you can also reimburse maternity insurance.
