# Salespeople in the Internet Era Need Wolf-like Aggressiveness!

> In the age of the internet, traditional salespeople should not feel inferior; instead, they should embrace the internet while leveraging their deep understanding of traditional industries. The article argues that salespeople need 'wolf-like aggressiveness' (狼性) rather than a 'wolf-like spirit' (狼性精神), emphasizing action and execution over mere thinking, and outlines four additional qualities for success: being true to oneself, leading by example, maintaining professional competence, and focusing on key tasks.

It's been a long time since I last wrote about salespeople, not because I didn't want to or couldn't, but because under the wave of internet thinking, the "position" of traditional marketing has been quietly replaced by concepts like the internet, mobile internet, and O2O. As the year draws to a close, the lunar year 2014 is about to pass completely. Looking back on this year, I can sum it up in one sentence: gains and losses aside, I have grown a lot.

I strongly agree with this viewpoint:

The internetization of traditional industries cannot be accomplished by someone with only short work experience. Why? First, they need a deep understanding of the traditional industry; second, they need a solid foundation, not only financial but also management capability, the ability to control the overall situation, and an understanding of the macro environment.

Those who can successfully internetize traditional industries are definitely not purely from the internet field.

The internetization of traditional enterprises requires composite talents, and people from traditional enterprises can make this transition more easily than those from internet companies because they are very familiar with the details and pitfalls of traditional industries. In practice, internet people need a long time to understand traditional industries.

(The above viewpoint is excerpted from the WeChat public platform of "Sino-Foreign Management Magazine," interview with Zhang Hongmei, founder and CEO of Sunshine Printing, by reporter Li Jing.)

Look at the text above. Traditional salespeople, why should you feel inferior? In 2015, take big strides to embrace the internet, because the future of the internet, mobile internet, and O2O lies in the "traditional" offline world, and don't you have that advantage?

Now, let's talk about wolf-like aggressiveness.

Previously, we always said that salespeople should have a wolf-like spirit, but that's actually incorrect. Although "wolf-like aggressiveness" and "wolf-like spirit" differ by only two characters, their essence is vastly different. Why? Wolf-like aggressiveness refers to the combat effectiveness and execution of individuals and teams, while wolf-like spirit refers to the way individuals and teams think about problems. This is like the confrontation between the internet, mobile internet, and internet thinking. The internet thinking is so hot, but which cases have you seen that succeeded by using internet thinking? Basically none. This is their misleading of traditional marketers. What traditional marketers need is not some kind of thinking, but methods and execution.

Do you understand, dear salespeople?

So we don't need a wolf-like spirit; we need wolf-like aggressiveness!

What is wolf-like aggressiveness?

It is a work attitude of striving with all your might for the goal, not stopping until the goal is achieved, and even resorting to any means for the goal; it is the unyielding way of fighting for the interests of the company and the team, daring to defy authority. I think this is wolf-like aggressiveness. Wolf-like aggressiveness is daring to achieve goals and realize value.

If someone is framed, schemed against, framed, or humiliated, and they don't even dare to make a sound, but instead try to please and flatter others, they are not a good salesperson; they are simply not a man! You might ask, is it necessary? I tell you, it is very necessary. If someone deliberately schemes against you, you don't need to be like Yue Fei. What to do? Repay them in kind, deal with them. If you are kind-hearted and still ask me why or for reasons, I can only say: if you don't even have this much courage, what can you accomplish!

Such positive energy words are rare for folks to see in a lifetime, haha, just kidding. Actually, I wrote the above very seriously. Of course, having wolf-like aggressiveness alone is not enough; it is the foundation, and the necessary and sufficient conditions come later. But without this foundation, talking about the rest is useless, because if you can't even get hard, how can you talk about climax?

I believe that besides wolf-like aggressiveness, salespeople also need to do the following four things well to achieve sales goals and realize self-worth.

First, be true to yourself.

Being true to yourself is not easy because there are many injustices, temptations, and things you can't stand. Many people advocate "gray management," saying that too clear water has no fish. I think many things need to be transparent and fair, otherwise it's hard to have cohesion. It's not about scarcity but about unfairness. What does that mean? It means fairness, especially justice. There are many reasons for not being true to yourself, but they are mostly the above situations. Many times, for the sake of goals and completing sales, we endure. Because being true to yourself and doing things right is the best guarantee for achieving sales goals.

Second, to forge iron, you must be strong yourself.

President Xi is mighty; his first sentence after taking office hit the nail on the head. That is, when we talk about others, teach others, or subordinates, we can make them sincerely convinced. If we have many problems ourselves, how can we have authority and influence? There is a saying in my hometown, roughly meaning: you are sitting on a pile of shit, yet you complain that others smell of urine. Reducing your own problems and being true to yourself is crucial. Managers must lead by example and set a good demonstration to stimulate the team's synergy and combat effectiveness.

Third, professional competence.

Some people talk nonsense and are good at bluffing, but when you ask them to solve specific problems, they are off the mark. There are many such people. Why are they not good? Because they seriously lack professional competence. They know a little about everything but only superficially, not deeply or rigorously. What to do? Deep reading and research can solve this. Read less gossip, more professional content; less Weibo and WeChat, more classics.

Fourth, do the important things well.

Focus on the main contradiction and the main aspect of the contradiction. No one can do all work well at the same time; you must prioritize. If you do the important things well, the rest can be buffered and eventually completed. Everyone has one or several important tasks. If you handle them well, 2015 will go smoothly.

Thank you for reading. I wish you a victorious start in 2015!
