# Rejection: The True Beginning of Sales

> After graduating with an environmental protection degree and struggling to find a related job, the author decides to switch careers and applies for a regional sales manager position at a major home appliance company. Despite facing rejection and disdain from the recruiters, he persists in presenting himself, ultimately getting hired and learning that the company intentionally tests candidates' resilience to rejection, as it is a crucial trait for sales.

I majored in environmental protection in college. After graduation, despite tremendous effort, I couldn't find a job in my field. So, I had to try changing careers.

That time, after much hesitation, I finally decided to apply at a large home appliance group company that had just entered the city. This renowned company needed 12 regional sales managers. When I saw the job requirements, I suddenly felt a sense of loss and despair: they required a bachelor's degree or above in marketing from a prestigious university, a bachelor's degree or above, and a professional qualification certificate for marketing managers...

After some hesitation, I still braced myself and walked into the recruitment site, but the scene before me made me feel even more embarrassed. Despite the high requirements, there were still many applicants, and most of them held relevant professional certificates. In comparison, my advantages were clearly not prominent. Standing in the middle of the queue, a sense of anxiety enveloped me.

Next, I saw many people walk out with red faces just a few minutes after entering the office. One person even looked furious, grabbed the hand of someone in line, and said with a bitter smile, "Let's go, brother, this is not the place for us..." I seemed to understand something...

After more than an hour, the tide of applicants quickly receded, and it was my turn. A feeling of solemnity rose in my heart. I straightened my back and bravely stepped into the recruitment office. I saw several recruiters inside who seemed somewhat impatient. I greeted them with a smile and handed over my resume. The recruiter took the resume, glanced at it, shook his head, and returned it to me, saying, "You can take this back."

I pretended to be confused and asked, "May I ask if there is a problem with my resume?"

The recruiter said with extreme impatience, "You definitely didn't read our job advertisement carefully. Your education and experience are far from our requirements. Don't you know that reading someone's advertisement carefully is a sign of respect..."

At that moment, I could clearly sense arrogance and contempt in his tone, but I still smiled and said, "I did read your job advertisement very carefully. I also want to ask you to read my resume carefully. It would not only be a sign of respect but also my honor. Perhaps if you listen to my introduction carefully, you will learn more about my strengths..."

The recruiter still looked disdainful, but he couldn't easily refuse. He leaned back in his chair and listened to my ideas casually, occasionally arguing with me...

Until more than twenty minutes later, one recruiter looked at his watch, finally smiled and asked me to stop, then took my resume. Another recruiter directly told me that I could report to the company tomorrow.

I entered the company unexpectedly, and even I didn't understand what the recruiters saw in me. I knew my introduction wasn't that brilliant and didn't deserve everyone's praise...

Later, I got a definitive answer from the HR manager: they didn't actually have such high requirements for diplomas; they deliberately raised the requirements. Their rejection and even sarcasm were also fake. They needed sales managers who could withstand rejection and bravely sell themselves, because in the marketing process, rejection is always present...

That's why the 12 sales managers they eventually hired were all people who could persist for more than 20 minutes in the face of their rejection...

I suddenly understood, and a feeling of happiness rose in my heart. Later, when teaching my salespeople about marketing, I never hesitated to use my own story to tell them: you will face countless rejections, but no one can ultimately reject a resilient heart.
