PepsiCo has undergone a major transformation.
On October 28, PepsiCo officially announced its new corporate brand identity on its website, describing the move as a "transformation." The latest corporate brand identity has already been rolled out across multiple official platforms, including PepsiCo's website and social media channels such as LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.

This is the first time in nearly 25 years that PepsiCo has updated its corporate brand identity. The previous corporate brand identity was launched in 2001. The precursor to Pepsi Cola was created in 1893, but PepsiCo was founded in 1965 through the merger of Pepsi-Cola Company and Frito-Lay. Since its founding, the 60-year-old PepsiCo has used four corporate brand identities.

From an overall visual perspective, a very obvious change can be seen: the "flavor" of Pepsi Cola in the logo is fading. Each update of the corporate brand identity reflected PepsiCo's positioning at that time.
In 1965, Pepsi-Cola Company had just merged with Frito-Lay. At that time, PepsiCo's most famous brands were Pepsi Cola and Lay's potato chips [1]. The PepsiCo logo was a "tweaked version" of the Pepsi Cola logo, borrowing its iconic red, white, and blue "Pepsi Globe" design, while the text changed from "Pepsi" to the company name "PepsiCo."

In 1985, PepsiCo changed its corporate brand identity for the first time. That same year, PepsiCo's products were sold in nearly 150 countries and regions [2], and its international business was thriving. During this period, the text "PepsiCo" in the logo maintained the same layout as in 1965 but occupied a significantly larger portion of the visual, becoming the focal point instead of the globe. At the same time, the classic red, white, and blue color scheme still evoked Pepsi Cola.

In 2001, PepsiCo changed its corporate brand identity again. That year, PepsiCo completed a major acquisition, bringing Quaker Oats and Gatorade into its portfolio. It can be seen that during this period, the globe in the PepsiCo logo was no longer limited to red, white, and blue but became colorful, symbolizing PepsiCo's globalization and the diversification of its brands. If some commonalities could be found among the first three versions, the 2025 corporate brand identity is almost a subversion of them. The overall look has changed, and there are more changes in details. In terms of typography, the text in the new PepsiCo logo is lowercase. PepsiCo believes that lowercase letters are more "approachable." [1] Previously, the text in PepsiCo's logo was uppercase. As for the colors of the graphic, the new PepsiCo logo uses a new combination of yellow, green, and blue. The meaning represented by the graphic has also changed accordingly. PepsiCo states that these colored panels symbolize the values that guide the company into the future: consumer-centricity, sustainability, and deliciousness. [1]
Moreover, each colored panel has its own specific meaning. When announcing the new logo, PepsiCo used a diagram to "highlight key points," explaining the meaning of each part with illustrations. PepsiCo's explanation of each part of the brand identity. Image source: PepsiCo
The yellow graphic on the left represents Food/Grains, also symbolizing the soil that nurtures food. The blue graphic at the top right corresponds to Drinks/Water, symbolizing refreshing beverages. The green graphic at the bottom right refers to PepsiCo's sustainable strategy "pep+", reflecting the company's commitment to people and the planet. [1] Below the letter "P," there is a dark green curve, which is a "smile." In PepsiCo's view, a smile is a simple, universal, yet touching symbol. Jane Wakely, PepsiCo's Chief Consumer and Marketing Officer and Chief Growth Officer for International Foods, said: "Placing the 'smile' at the core of our visual identity demonstrates our consumer-centricity, which is the driving force behind our growth." [1]
These colored panels together "spell out" a white letter "P," which is also a deliberate design language by PepsiCo. PepsiCo explains: "When all these elements come together, the letter 'P' emerges, reminding us that our mission stems from our connection to each other." [1] The letter "P" appears in both Pepsi Cola (Pepsi) and PepsiCo, making it a recognizable symbol of the brand.
The new PepsiCo logo also differs from the previous three versions in another way—it adds a slogan, "Food. Drinks. Smiles." This slogan echoes the "smile" symbol in the logo and represents the company's mission: "To bring more smiles with every sip and every bite." [4] Image source: PepsiCo
The previous corporate brand identity had been used for nearly 25 years. Why change now? When announcing the new brand identity, PepsiCo cited a statistic: PepsiCo has more than 500 brands, but only 21% of consumers can name a PepsiCo brand other than Pepsi Cola. [1] PepsiCo believes that this corporate brand update provides an opportunity to showcase the depth and diversity of PepsiCo's brand portfolio. Updating the brand identity also aligns with PepsiCo's current corporate positioning.

In his view, this brand identity reflects what kind of company PepsiCo is in 2025—a company with global influence, an outstanding portfolio of consumer-favorite food and beverage brands, and these brands are based on high-quality ingredients, providing functional value such as protein supplementation and superior hydration. [4] He stated that PepsiCo needs to become "faster," more consumer-centric, focused on innovation, and tailor strategies for the U.S. and international markets.
Looking at specific brands and products, PepsiCo's recent innovation moves align with the brand identity update. On October 9, PepsiCo's Lay's potato chips launched the largest brand overhaul in its nearly century-long history, with packaging style "returning to authenticity," more retro, conveying to consumers the key message that "chips come from the earth." At the same time, ingredients are becoming more "natural," and by the end of 2025, all core products produced by Lay's in the U.S. will be free of artificial flavors or artificial colors. Similar upgrades are appearing across more of PepsiCo's brands and products. The Associated Press reported that U.S. consumers are increasingly rejecting artificial colors, and PepsiCo's Cheetos and Gatorade products will gradually stop using colors. [6] Additionally, while releasing its Q3 2025 earnings, PepsiCo announced an increased focus on the protein market, launching more innovative protein functional products in early 2026, covering hydration brand Propel and protein beverage brand Muscle Milk, among others. In the future, PepsiCo's corporate brand identity will be gradually rolled out in phases across different markets, channels, and touchpoints. Starting in January 2026, it will appear on PepsiCo's food and beverage packaging.
