Over 30 industry experts, 100 B2B platform founders, and 800 manufacturer and distributor friends gathered in Fuzhou to discuss the internet transformation of the FMCG industry.
Sales training gurus say the more you complain, the worse your luck gets! To excel in sales, stop complaining—it's the first virtue of the profession. So, how can we avoid complaining in sales?
**1. The Ubiquitous Phenomenon of Complaining at Work**
Around us, we constantly hear: "The client is a jerk, too stingy, too hard to deal with; work is boring, the company is bad, management is poor, the atmosphere is terrible... Low salary, bad environment, heavy tasks, high pressure... Frequent overtime, no bonuses, lack of benefits... In practice, the boss gives no instructions, I don't know what to do... This isn't my responsibility... Why isn't anyone coordinating this?... The market is tough, so sales are low... With such a small budget, we've done well enough..." These are common complaints I and many others often voice about work.
Everyone may face setbacks at work, and everyone might hit a low point in their career, needing to vent and relieve life's pressures. Thus, complaining becomes a widespread emotion in society, seemingly understandable. The problem is, once you form a habit of complaining and develop a complaining mindset, we lose our sense of responsibility and mission at work, overlooking the joy and happiness from completing tasks and personal growth. In fact, we should ask ourselves: Can we not complain? What do we gain from complaining? Putting ourselves in others' shoes, would a company hire an employee who constantly complains about the company, boss, colleagues, and clients? The answer is definitely no.
**2. What Does Complaining Bring?**
Any market-oriented enterprise hopes to hire an employee who solves problems and brings value, not a garrulous critic. Know that complaining alone is useless; it only diminishes our drive and courage to overcome difficulties, keeping us from success.
**1. Complaining about the company.** For employees, what matters is not the company or position, but stopping complaints, improving personal skills, and delivering convincing results. At the start, it's always the job choosing you, not you choosing the job. Similarly, it's not that work needs people, but people need work. To achieve something in your career, you need not only ability but also cultivation; you can't easily grumble. Remember, complaining about the company only diverts you from its development, fails to enhance your value, and eventually gets you discarded.
**2. Complaining about salary.** People often have high expectations of themselves, believing they deserve recognition and generous pay. Compared to growth space, work meaning, company atmosphere, and skill development, many focus more on salary, making it the sole criterion. In fact, complaining not only fails to solve problems but also causes you to lose higher goals and stronger work motivation, drifting through life in complaints.
**3. Complaining about colleagues.** Blaming and complaining bring no benefits to your work; instead, they expose our immaturity and incompetence. Moreover, blunt criticism makes others lose face, hurting their self-esteem, leading to unpleasant endings and difficult situations. If you can practice empathy, considering colleagues' interests and needs, you'll navigate the workplace smoothly and successfully. Otherwise, you'll become someone who makes enemies and is unwelcome.
**3. Be an Action-Taker, Not a Complainer**
Instead of complaining about low pay, find ways to fatten your paycheck; instead of complaining about a strict boss, strive to do your job well; instead of complaining about frequent overtime, finish your work within eight hours; instead of complaining about the company not providing a development platform, build your core competitiveness... Behind every seemingly reasonable complaint lies a better choice: change the status quo and become an action-taker.
**1. Instead of complaining about others, change yourself.** Many people often blame others at work but rarely look at themselves. In fact, others' existence and actions have their rationale. Complaining about others is less effective than changing yourself. Once you change, everything improves. Just as we can't go through a wall, we can go around it to reach our goal.
**2. Turn complaints into constructive suggestions.** Complainers often already have opinions or solutions but feel unheard or lack initiative, so they complain. If you consider your ideas from the company's perspective and proactively propose them in a way leaders accept, or actively implement them, the company would surely welcome it.
**3. The company is your ship.** In fierce market competition, the company is like a ship. Whether boss or employee, once aboard, their fates are tightly linked, sharing the same direction and destination; the ship's fate is everyone's fate. Enterprise growth relies on employee growth, and employee growth relies on the enterprise platform. As the saying goes: Enterprise thrives, employees thrive; enterprise declines, employees decline.
**4. Work with an owner's mindset.** If you work with an owner's mindset, you'll think from a global perspective, determine your position in the work chain, find the best methods, and excel. With this mindset, you won't refuse tasks from superiors, seeing them as opportunities to showcase and hone your abilities.
**5. Shut your mouth and get to work.** Instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle. Complaining doesn't solve problems; it worsens them. Only action solves them. Successful people share a common trait: they never make excuses for outcomes or complain about how things should have been; they act positively.
**6. There's no humble work, only humble attitudes.** Every job has its value; work has no high or low status, only done well or poorly. Even in an ordinary position, if you strive to do it exceptionally well, you can transcend mediocrity and become elite.
**7. Endure hardship instead of complaining; strive instead of getting angry.** Work won't be smooth sailing; there will be setbacks and blows. Complaining is useless; only extra effort leads to sweet after bitter and success. Without hard work, even the best ideas and plans remain on paper or mere fantasies, never becoming reality.
**8. Be a brick in the organization, moved wherever needed.** To achieve success, embrace the spirit of obedience—being a brick moved where needed—and the action of finding methods without excuses. Employees who follow leadership arrangements become the most welcomed and favored by bosses and superiors.
**9. Work fears not being done thoroughly; thoroughness leads to good positions.** Just as a lid must be tightened to prevent water leakage, work must be done thoroughly to achieve expected results. Any leader worries about subordinates not doing tasks properly and messing up, as leaders bear responsibility, even the greatest. The company also suffers losses from your incomplete work, as redoing tasks adds costs, being uneconomical and inefficient.
**10. Thinking determines the way out; mindset determines income.** Your thinking shapes your path, and your thoughts determine your earnings. So, we must break free from rigid mindsets and actively change our thinking to avoid being eliminated. Every enterprise welcomes employees who innovate rather than stick to conventions, as innovation is the eternal driving force for enterprise development.
**4. Training Methods to Change Complaining Mindsets**
Complaining makes people shallow-minded and narrow-hearted, alienating them from company values, narrowing their development paths, and leading to failure. Thus, the biggest victim of complaining is oneself.
**1. Daily reflection.** Why do I complain? What do I gain from it? What do I need to improve? Are there solutions? Have I praised or complimented others? Have I examined myself? Have I been grateful for what I have? Constant complaining makes thoughts waver, leading to sloppy work. Therefore, we should actively and continuously reflect daily to change ourselves, treating work's "hardships" with a positive attitude!
**2. Use complaining time to improve abilities.** With ability, you can go anywhere; without it, you're stuck. For employees, what matters is not the company or position, but stopping complaints, enhancing skills, and delivering convincing results. For enterprises, the least scarce are employees who nitpick and complain; the most scarce are those who don't complain, act positively, and solve problems. Instead of complaining, fully engage in work, striving to improve quality and complete tasks.
**3. Reflect before complaining.** Before complaining, ask yourself: Have I tried hard enough? Remember, doing your best leads to perfection. It's not that others are unfair to you, but that you haven't worked hard enough. To get the fairness you desire, the best way is: use effort to change the status quo, prove yourself with facts, and create fairness with ability.
**4. Treat difficulties as challenges.** When facing unfavorable environments or problems, why not see hardship as a test? At work, being responsible for results is also being responsible for your salary and future. Instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle.
**5. Talk less, do more.** The only way to stop complaining is to take action. Many people blame others at work but rarely look at themselves. In fact, once you change, everything improves. Any blame or complaint is a sign of incompetence. Only by fully tapping your potential and showcasing your talents at work can you realize life's value in the company's development.
In this world, there's no humble work, only humble mindsets. Instead of complaining, bury yourself in work, using all the time and energy spent complaining to enhance your core competitiveness and do your tasks thoroughly. Let the examples in this article serve as references; adopt the non-complaining mindset as a code of conduct; use the methods to change complaining as a guide, and become a practitioner of non-complaining.
