Introduction
A scientific, reasonable, and aesthetically pleasing supermarket product display will attract consumers' attention, stimulate consumption, and thereby increase our turnover. So, what principles should we remember to achieve such a display? Here, combined with practical display diagrams, we explain some simple product display principles in the form of a rhyme, hoping to be helpful to your business.
Display Rhyme
Detailed Display Illustrations
1. Visible and easy to find
The primary condition for display is that customers and staff can easily see, find, and access the products. Therefore, during the display process, every single product should meet this basic requirement. As shown in the figure:
2. Within arm's reach for maximum
Similar to the purpose of visibility, the display height should be controlled at a position where staff or customers can easily reach. As shown in the figure:
3. Face outward, not upside down
Products should be placed with the front facing the customer, which not only facilitates customer attention but also reflects the store's basic management level. As shown in the figure:
4. Price tag corresponds to product
Price tags and products should correspond one-to-one to avoid customers having a bad impression of price traps, which would reduce customer trust, and also facilitate direct purchase. As shown in the figure:
5. Stand upright if possible, align top and bottom
Products that can be displayed upright should be displayed upright as much as possible. Besides increasing the visible display area and enhancing product attention, this can also avoid product damage caused by long-term lying flat. As shown in the figure:
6. Left low, right high, price group
Generally, product display should follow the customer's movement direction, displaying low-price, medium-price, and high-price items in sequence. Especially, placing low-price items in the direction where customers enter is conducive to forming a low-price image for the store.
7. Golden position for key items
On the same shelf, due to different customer viewing methods, different display positions will lead to different sales changes. Generally, products displayed at eye level have the highest sales, while products that require customers to look up or squat down to see have relatively lower sales. As shown in the figure:
8. Don't cover brand products
Brand products are an important category to ensure store traffic. The store's brand products can be adjusted in position according to their sales characteristics, determining whether they are key products, auxiliary products, or others. However, they should not be deliberately blocked or hidden. As shown in the figure:
9. Related display for good service
The display layout should be reasonably arranged based on customer movement lines and target customers' consumption habits. Typically, seasonal categories and promotional items can be placed near the entrance (to increase customer entry rate), promotional categories can be set at the connection points of customer movement lines (to extend customer routes), and product association areas can be established inside the store according to different target customer needs. As shown in the figure:
10. First in, first out to reduce expiration
To avoid expiration loss of products, single-item display should follow the first-in, first-out principle.
11. Fixed shelf positions, don't neglect
To maximize display effectiveness and achieve solidified product management, if conditions allow, cosmetics stores should gradually implement shelf position management to strengthen product management effects. As shown in the figure:
12. Featured products at end caps
In addition to basic display positions, for some featured products, such as seasonal items, promotional items, new and special products, etc., under the premise of complying with product management, the store should increase end cap or cart themed displays as much as possible to create a better store marketing atmosphere.
13. Props and auxiliary tools
Display is not only about product placement but also the combination of display props such as special price signs, POP, etc., with products. Through the appropriate use of display tools, the display effect of key products can be better highlighted, achieving the goal of a silent salesperson.
14. Small items on the checkout counter
Generally, products suitable for checkout counter display include: small-sized items, convenience items, items easily overlooked by customers, impulse purchase items, seasonal small items, relatively low unit price items, non-food items, etc. This facilitates customers' "pick-up" purchases and increases the number of items per customer.
15. Valuable items to prevent theft
Valuable items that are easily stolen should be displayed in closed cabinets with dedicated management and daily handover.
Usually, varieties from famous brands, best-selling items in the local consumer circle, relatively high unit price items, and items frequently lost in store inventory checks are prone to becoming theft targets. These need special display designs, such as empty box displays, anti-theft magnetic strips, closed cabinet displays, etc.
