# Huang Chengming: Recommended Classic Books on Data Analysis I've Read in the Past Two Years

> Over the past two years, I've read seventy or eighty books. Here are a few I think are good, briefly introduced; you can search for details online. In no particular order: 1. 'Data-Driven Management: Insights into Retail and E-commerce Operations' – a book I wrote, published last July, with nearly 50,000 copies sold. It tells the story of two young people working in sales, merchandise, e-commerce, and data departments, explaining data awareness and retail thinking through many cases, integrating various data analysis methods into specific business scenarios.

Over the past two years, I've read seventy or eighty books. Here are a few I think are good, briefly introduced; you can search for details online. In no particular order:
1. [Data-Driven Management: Insights into Retail and E-commerce Operations]
Praising my own child, you know. This is a book I wrote, published last July, and has sold nearly 50,000 copies. It tells the story of two young people working in sales, merchandise, e-commerce, and data departments, explaining data awareness and retail thinking through many cases, integrating various data analysis methods into specific business scenarios.
2. [The Lady Tasting Tea]
This is a book about statistics, with the lofty subtitle 'How Statistics Revolutionized Science in the Twentieth Century.' It can be considered a popular science book on statistics. Unfortunately, it seems you can't buy it now; only some Taobao sellers are selling photocopies.
3. [How to Lie with Statistics]
Also known as 'Statistical Traps,' this book is over 60 years old and still popular, which shows how wonderful its content is. It has been printed in various languages and editions. It's worth careful reading for anyone who works with data daily (not necessarily data analysts). My principle is not to deceive others with data, but also not to let others deceive me with data.
Yesterday I also posted a Weibo post expressing my feelings:
> [Data Analyst's Conscience Qualities] 1. Don't mislead others with wrong data sources. 2. Don't create weird indicators to fool others. 3. Don't use weights to manipulate analysis conclusions. 4. Don't deliberately switch concepts or preset conclusions. 5. Have the courage and strategy to point out others' mistakes found through data. 6. Dare to question...
4. [Consumer Behavior]
A classic among classics, now in its 12th edition, with some internet-related cases added. This is an era of scenario consumption and consumer-driven retail. How can you do marketing and data analysis without understanding consumers?
5. [The Strategy and Tactics of Pricing]
A book by an American author, systematically explaining various pricing strategies. Differentiated pricing is a must in the internet era. How can you navigate the world without understanding pricing? However, this book has some shortcomings: it only introduces pricing but not price management, such as price band analysis. Enterprises should not just set prices but manage them.
6. [Data Points: Visualization That Means Something]
This is a book about data visualization, also by an American author. Data visualization is very popular now; without knowing a bit, you can't survive in a company. This book is also recommended for being systematic. Highlights: 1. It uses simple R language to easily obtain web data; I personally like it, making it easy to grab national weather and stock data. 2. It reacquaints you with bar charts, pie charts, line charts, and scatter plots. 3. It uses maps to achieve perfect data visualization effects.
7. [McKinsey Series] Including: 'The McKinsey Way,' 'The McKinsey Edge,' 'McKinsey Mind'
McKinsey, a well-known consulting firm, is the ideal job target for many college students. These three books will improve your way of thinking and work habits. In this era of internet thinking everywhere, McKinsey thinking is a must.
8. [WeChat Thinking]
This is a book launched by the WeChat team this year. Although it was born to promote WeChat, after reading it, I indeed raised my understanding of WeChat to several levels. WeChat has gradually become the entrance to our life, learning, and work. Not knowing some WeChat thinking will make you outdated. Of course, this book still stays at the case-study narrative level, not enough dry goods, and lacks deep landing strategies, but it's worth a look.
9. [The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari]
This is a chicken soup for the soul. Busy work sometimes needs some chicken soup, right? This soup is thick and different enough.
10. [Big Data: A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work, and Think]
In this era, if you don't have a big data book on your shelf, you can't 'pretend' to be in the know. And this book is touted as the best big data book so far. Although big data is still far from us, what if we achieve it?
