# Distributors: How to Build a Personal Brand?

> To succeed in business, you need resources such as capital, technology, connections, and customer channels, but these are often held by others. As an entrepreneur, you must learn to integrate others' resources, which requires building trust and a positive personal brand through systematic planning and action.

To succeed in your own business, you need resources, including capital, technology, connections, social relationships, customer channels, and so on. However, resources are mostly scattered in the hands of others. As an entrepreneur, you naturally need to consider how to integrate others' resources. Simply put, in business, you must learn to use other people's money to operate. Generally, resources are obtained through exchange. When you don't yet have enough resources to exchange with others, you need to find ways to get others to provide resources to you first. In a sense, people are still very willing to help friends who are worth helping and trustworthy.

How can you integrate resources held by others? Whether they lend to you or invest in you, aside from the potential return on investment, the first prerequisite is trust in you. This trust includes understanding and recognition of you, as well as the positive image you have built over time. In other words, it's your personal brand.

A personal brand is not built in a day or two, nor by doing one or two things. It's not enough for you to think you're a good person; others must also see you that way. A personal brand is gradually formed through a systematic process involving goals, planning, positioning, investment, and strategy. Let's discuss the specific steps to build a personal brand:

**1. Goal Setting**
Setting goals is simple—just a sentence. For example:
- I am a reliable entrepreneur/partner;
- I am a trustworthy friend;
- I am a clear-thinking and execution-oriented professional manager.

**2. Planning**
Planning is the basic breakdown of goals. For example:
- Within three years;
- Invest 50,000 yuan;
- Through 10-30 specific tasks;
- Build a network of 100-200 target contacts;
- And within that network, establish and consolidate your personal brand image.

**3. Positioning**
What is a good person? What is a reliable person? It cannot be vague and general; it should be clear and specific, so that when others see you, think of you, or mention you, a concrete impression immediately comes to mind. Basic positioning includes:
- Good personal conduct, i.e., good basic qualities;
- Have a plan and a sense of the big picture;
- Have certain work ability and strong execution;
- Clear thinking and good intelligence;
- Credible and responsible.

**4. Transparency**
Transparency means letting others easily understand you, even at a glance, which facilitates their understanding and positioning of you. Only with sufficient understanding can they form a positioning of you. Transparency includes:
- Who are you? What is your basic background?
- What can you do, and what can't you do?
- What are your strengths and characteristics?
- What have you done before?
- What are you currently doing, what are your development goals, and what progress have you made?
- What difficulties and problems are you currently facing?
- What things have you messed up, and the reasons are clear.

Avoid being mysterious. If others don't understand you, they can't form a positioning of you. Without a clear positioning, they can't be sure about you and won't dare to help you.

**5. Proof Methods**
Setting a positioning for yourself is simple, and initially spreading it is not difficult. But others won't immediately believe what they hear about you; you often need to verify or corroborate it through specific actions. For example:
- A project you were fully responsible for; success or failure doesn't matter, but the planning, execution, coordination, scheduling, and communication involved should at least be carried through to the end;
- Small collaborations with others;
- Proactively helping others or proactively asking others for small favors;
- When others help you (whether big or small), your reciprocation shows that you are grateful;
- Your words and actions in daily interactions.

Some might say this is deliberate, or even fake or acting. In fact, things are not inherently good or bad. In a sense, there are no so-called good or bad people; it's just others' perceptions and definitions of you. To form others' perceptions and definitions, you need to prove and consolidate them through specific (even pre-designed) events.

The credibility accumulated through these planning, positioning, and proof methods should not be used on trivial matters. Instead, save it for big things later. Of course, most people have little idea how to build a personal brand. They think it's enough to consider themselves good people, sometimes showing off a bit of personality, not caring about others' opinions. Of course, you can be that arrogant if you have money, talent, or looks (men like Daniel Wu, women like Lin Chi-ling), or if you're content with a plain life and simple meals, then there's no need to bother.

If you have aspirations and want to succeed in your own business, you need clear plans and special actions, and invest time, energy, and budget accordingly.
